Ah. I suppose that's one of the places where our thoughts diverge. However, realistically if I was presented with a choice between Marxist-Leninism and National Socialism, there would be a third way available to me. I refer to suicide. As unpleasant as the option is, I agree with the Stoics on this one; it would be better to die with my conscience and dignity intact then to live and succumb to wickedness.

Does that make any sense? I recognize that it's a grim topic, but when your choices are between the Reds and the Nazis, I choose neither.

The combination of the Nazis, the Bolsheviks, other communist regimes, other secularist or anti-clerical governments make the 20th century probably the most intense era for persecution. In a lot of instances it's hard to distinguish between martyrdom and being killed for other reasons, but the 30 years war doesn't compare to the truly global scale of the repression and murder of Christian populations in the 20th century. This involved modern levels of population, the unprecedented power of the modern state, and a geographical range from Mexico, to Spain, to Turkey, and to Vietnam. I'm not sure why you're so loathe to admit that secularist, communist, and fascist regimes committed atrocities against Christians in a massive scale very recently.
