We traded space colonization for bringing democracy to cultures which can't handle it. Maybe we can get to that a few decades late. I can't imagine it would cost more than 8 trillion dollars to send a man to Mars :^)

What makes you think we will ever have the money, the resources, or technology to create a back up Earth? We should take care of the Earth we already have.

The two are not mutually exclusive. You can take care of an existing asset while diversifying into others. And what makes you think we ever will fix the problems here? We should still try, as much as we can, but a lot of Earth is really not viable anyways.

And we might never have the technology (money and resources we almost certainly do have) but just because we might not achieve it is not a reason to not even try.

Plus it would develop spin off technologies we can use here, create jobs here.

How anarchist and how primitivist?

If you want economic degrowth but still relatively good living standards ensured by distributing the remaining resources more equitably, combined with a more decentralised and localised political system you're probably just a boring everyday Green who'd be more at home in LWDT. If you combine that with social conservatism you could be somewhere around the rather niche vein of green conservatism based on Burkean notions of intergenerational justice, in which case here makes more sense.

If you want to return society wholesale to a preindustrial state and think it should be done by mobs setting fire to all the technology then you'd be more at home in the psychiatric ward.
