The development of Protestant historicism (the idea that you could peel back myths and find the real humanist face of religious sages) was a real thing which corrupted many non-Protestant religions and made them displace tradition in favor of fundamentalism.

I'm not sure why would this would be a gotcha to me, I'm not a Catholic. And American Protestants have their skeletons in the closet.

Only after they had moved them around to different churches and communities rather than report them, to protect their image.

Just as the Catholic clergy had done. And likewise, most of them have lost their positions and/or have been tried by the authorities.

The thing is if liberal theology or massive loss in church attendance is the thing you are criticizing then Mainline Protestants are the biggest offenders. The Mainline Protestant Churches are the ones trying to be the most “woke” while at the same time hemorrhaging members at the highest rates.

From a right wing critique therefore mainline Protestants would be the logical target.

Although I may be a layperson, I can’t even be described as a believer in all honesty, I nevertheless find liberal theology (not just that which plagues the Christian faith, but that which plagues other faiths as well— I’m looking at you, Le Guin) to be... I’m at a loss for words, really. I’m going to go with “bad-wrong” even though it doesn’t precisely capture my viewpoint.
I may return for somewhat longer than I was initially expecting. Why am I here? No idea whatsoever. I really ought to find some way out of this place.

Also, the NS stats don't reflect my RL views, just to clarify.

I think my views are close to yours on this. I am a deist/agnostic who does not care much about the details of theology. For me the primary purposes of churches/synagogues/temples is to give people a sense of community, meaning, purpose and both moral structure and morale.
Something beyond the alienation and nihilism of post modern consumerism.
Something more than Snapchat and Starbucks.

As long as the belief system is not actively destructive to Western society like Salafism it does not bother me.

But the Protestant Churches that have basically just become a DSA conventions parroting whatever “woke” stuff is in with the left crowd do not achieve the purpose of replacing the post modern garbage as they embrace it.

I mean, the way I see things, Yang is the best of the lot. Not an ideal candidate, mind you, but in these strange times I’ll take what I can get, y’know? “Beggars can’t be choosers” or something along those lines.
