What if it's a nice cosmic horror?

Also, how would humans of today be able to fight against a being that can travel in space without a space ship?

Everybody's gangster till you need a space fleet and the alien can just fly around by itself in space and destroy planets

But why would it destroy planets? Why wouldn't it be simply studying planets from afar? A creature capable of living in the vacuum of space, or entity might be a better word, would likely understand the uniqueness of life. Surrounded by the vast emptiness of space, it likely wouldn't be so careless to destroy a planet full of life on a whim.

Because, as I said before, humans are egotistical, so a lot believe how things work on Earth is how it works everywhere else.

In his case, they're using humanity's long history on conquering others and colonialism to come to the conclusion that anything we might not know about or understand wants to most likely kill us and steal our resources.

No worries, we're on the same page here :) I'm just trying to challenge the idea put forth by the OP that if such an entity existed, it would be a horrifying monster, as there is no basis for it to be something of the sort. For all we know, it could be a form of life/existence that we even cannot begin to understand or fathom.

But nah, considering most people in the developed world want to die already, I'm pretty sure the general reaction would range from "Meh, I hope this doesn't mess up my work schedule" to "Oh thank fuck, finally!"

Or it's just flying around in space and our planet ends up like a bug on a windshield. I myself think alien life wouldn't care too much about us one way or another, and that one major reason we may have never contacted aliens is because any society that picked up our signals basically left us on read

Because humans are strange and enigmatic creatures? Besides, why not? Anything can become a subject for a discussion :)

It's only a hunch. It also may be that advanced alien societies destroy themselves before we ever contact them or that they just haven't received the signal yet. The point is, an eldritch abomination isn't evil for the sake of being evil. It's just too powerful for us to survive an encounter with. Think of how many bugs you accidentally stepped on while walking around outside. Now imagine that we're the bugs

I don't think a creature like this would be something that's looking for an invitation to a Barbecue. Unless it's a barbecue of planet Earth with a side of humans.

That's only because humans invented the idea of that creature, and have thus given it the instincts and behaviors of Earth animals, as that's all we know.

But the problem is, is that it ain't from Earth.

Not necessarily vegan, but perhaps a scientist who likes observing humans or they just think we're cute.

All hail The Great Spaghetti Monster. Something like this has absolutely no use for humans. We are interesting chimps to a creature like this, curiosities, little more. If we do something bizarre and strange like blow up a nuke on the moon, we might attract its attention for a bit, but why would we? Leave it alone and don't try and attract strangeness.

Well we are probably eldritch abominations by the standard of most life on earth. It would be the height of arrogance to assume that there's nothing that can put us in the same place that we put ants.

Daarwyrth wrote:What does fascinate me about subjects like these is that humans always think up of such things as something terrible , bad and evil. It begs the question whether it reveals more about us than any other lifeform.

If there were such a creature out there, I'd prefer to think of it as something good, or at least, not an abomination. I'd prefer to see it as a creature whose knowledge and curiosity are never sated, who studies planets from afar but never interferes or destroys. I'd prefer to see it as something that has seen so much empty space in the universe that it values life beyond anything and would never seek to destroy it or harm it. But study its enigma instead.

Eldritch abomination aren't always, or even usually evil. Just scary, because you're dealing with an entity that views you as an ant, if it recognizes you at all, and certainly doesn't see you as an equal, or even as intelligent..
