The city has agreed to place only women — not single men, as first planned — at the 200-bed homeless shelter planned for 127-03 20 Ave. in College Point. The facility is expected to open this week. Area leaders who fought to get the plan stopped declared a partial victory. Concerns had been expressed about placing single men — some of whom may have been formerly incarcerated — near five neighborhood schools with young children. Residents also called the 20th Avenue location bad because of its lack of subway access and distance from social services centers.
Anti-male hysteria about them being sexual predators and so on causing us to lash out at the vulnerable in society. Hmm.
“The community remained diligent, vigilant and united and has now successfully secured the conversion to a shelter for women, rather than single men," state Sen. John Liu (D-Bayside) said in a prepared statement. "Although the plan is by no means perfect, we are satisfied that a far better outcome has been achieved.”
Oh look, a Senator. It's a fringe minority tho, not representative.
Even when it's, you know.
A representative.
Helping women is a much better outcome than helping men. Forget all the excuses and justifications for making the decision, they just avoided accidentally spending some resources on helping men with destroyed lives and remembered that men don't deserve help and will just go to the local schools and attack all the kids anyway.
Hundreds rallied against the plan earlier this year in College Point. Other shelter proposals in different communities across Queens, such as Glendale recently, have generated major backlash.
Whenever you try and get shit done for men this kind of shit happens. But notice that major institutions and influential activists don't turn on these protestors and start trying to marginalize them or vilify them while discussing how society has an anti-male problem that needs to be addressed or discussing the root causes of this hostility and dehumanization, instead, those institutions cave in and are like "No you're right we shouldn't help men.".
"This is not what we demanded, certainly it’s not what we hoped for," College Point Residents' Coalition member Michael Deng said in his own statement. "However, we do feel that a women’s shelter will be better and is a less intimidating fit for the community, particularly the elderly, women and school kids, as their safety is what we are most worried and concerned about."
Meanwhile, men can fuck off and die.
Some facts;
3/4 of the homeless are men. When you only count people "Sleeping rough" (I.E, those with nowhere to stay and no roof), this jumps to 90%.
80% of rough sleepers who die every year are men.
Just another day in a gynocentrist society I guess.
Vilification of men and otherizing them has consequences for the most vulnerable in society, it won't get fixed until people realize that and fight against it, and that includes rejecting feminist ideology and its adherents as valid participants in a civilized society because of the damage their participation in it causes. It will also probably involve direct action so that misandry can no longer continue without causing more harm to those practicing it than benefit, as our institutions are awash with ideologues who sympathize with these anti-male priorities and viewpoints.
As for damage;
In this example, the vilification of men as a danger to children is rooted in feminist campaigning across several decades. NOW, the largest feminist organization in the world, using it as a reason to oppose joint custody of children, as well as persistent feminist framing of men as violent and a danger to women in a way women aren't to men, note "The elderly, women, and school kids", and so on. Finally there is feminist culpability in their suppression of the mens rights movement while claiming they are an equality movement, then failing to take up the fight in instances like this.
Akin to me freaking out and gaslighting/shouting at you when you try and cook for yourself and demanding no shops sell you any food because it's my job and if they do then me and my influential friends will harbor an outright vendetta against them in the media and academia, all while gaslighting you and saying that its my intention to cook for both for us despite all evidence to the contrary, then just, you know.
Letting you starve.
