Stick with the job. Contrary to public opinion, you totally can take it with you when you die. The Egyptians did pretty well with it.

If you die with enough money, you can use it to bid on a new life.

I can't blame them. These politicians who on average are in their 50s or 60s have the privilege of being able to die before they see the full consequences of their inactions.

As much as I would optimistically want those protests to actually succeed and make change, it is more likely, that it will end up similarly to Occupy Wall Street, as others have pointed out in the thread. It seems, that as a Gen Z myself, I will have some harsh years ahead.

Tbh, I think, that it will be a tad too late, when most governments will try to do more to stop the change, and the future generations will experience the terrible effects the most. Makes me wonder, how their political opinions will form under the circumstances, and how the older politicians will be viewed about 30-40 years later.

It would have to be almost worldwide though. That's the issue. The government is too deep in the pocket of big oil to even attempt to solve the problem, and the only way to do it is to cut emissions world wide by like over 70%. These two things are major roadblocks in the path to surviving climate change which is why I've taken the survivalist approach. We probably won't stop this, so you need to physically and mentally prepare yourself, because there's dark days ahead

Ohh, of course. As things get worse, I could imagine, that some people could get swayed by radical ideas. That is what I fear, actually - rise of the extremism in future, if a coordinated effort to combat the climate change isn't done, and things like heat waves, drought, and flood get worse, along with breaking maximum temperature records.

That is the best you can do on an individual level fam. I have initiated measures towards such preparation since last year as I believe 2018 was the initial turning point of a drastic change of earth climate in general.

Absolutly. Also people who move in from other areas that got hot or inhabitable. It's going to be one hell of a clusterfuck.

Yup. Also, we can pretty much say bye-bye to snowy winters, if Earth continues to warm up - perhaps cold rain at most. The last few winters were pretty meh already - for the first half of December, there wasn't even any snow, and it rather reminded me of autumn, instead of winter. (There would still be bits of ice and snow in territories near poles, tho, but still...)

What you're talking about would be uranium power plants, which aren't used much anymore due to the high radiation and waste. However thorium power plants are much more environment friendly as well as producing more power than uranium per ton.

Because she opposes the safest, most environmentally friendly form of power?
That she opposes the only viable method of actually addressing the problem in favor of telling people to stop flying?

And on the waste:

The waste is actually not a major problem and nuclear produces much LESS waste than any other power source.

Its not a major problem? Are you serious? That is an opinion piece. I didn't see any evidence to back up his claims.

And on the waste:

The waste is actually not a major problem and nuclear produces much LESS waste than any other power source.

Its not a major problem? Are you serious?

Yes, I am serious. Read the article.

The amount produced it very small, easy to contain, and kills literally zero people a year.

Solar produces far more problematic waste.

Yeah all those scientists who say storing it on site is not sustainable are lying or have no idea what they are talking about.

How is it more problematic?

Its not a major problem? Are you serious? That is an opinion piece. I didn't see any evidence to back up his claims.

Which is better?
- A form of efficient power that produces waste that must be stored
- Forms of power that contribute to air pollution and a global disaster in progress
pro: women's rights
anti: men's rights

How does solar power pollute?

Or everyone could simply have less kids. There is too much population

Who are all these scientists you speak of?
And the proof is empiricism. Nobody is killed, hurt or injured by it.

Plus even if you do not want to store it on site you have plenty of other options.

And how is solar more problematic? The article tells you:

“The Trouble With Solar Waste

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in 2016 estimated there was about 250,000 metric tonnes of solar panel waste in the world at the end of that year. IRENA projected that this amount could reach 78 million metric tonnes by 2050.

Solar panels often contain lead, cadmium, and other toxic chemicals that cannot be removed without breaking apart the entire panel. “Approximately 90% of most PV modules are made up of glass,” notes San Jose State environmental studies professor Dustin Mulvaney. “However, this glass often cannot be recycled as float glass due to impurities. Common problematic impurities in glass include plastics, lead, cadmium and antimony.”

Researchers with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) undertook a study for U.S. solar-owning utilities to plan for end-of-life and concluded that solar panel “disposal in “regular landfills [is] not recommended in case modules break and toxic materials leach into the soil” and so “disposal is potentially a major issue.””

Nuclear produces only a tiny fraction of the waste.

Solar takes up far more resources to produce and produces far more toxic waste.
Nuclear is better for the environment.
