Let's not talk about the fact that they probably use cars (which emmit CO, which is way more fucking dangerous than CO2 mind you), mobile phones and electrical appliances (which require electricity, which in this day and age mostly comes from non-renewable sources, last time I checked) and throw stuff onto the ground (like bubblegums), or even worse, into the sea.

And getting a new phone on a yearly basis. Which... I am a little guilty of, because I tend to get new phones, but I only did it every 2-3 years, or if my previous phone became unusable to the point of no return.

I was kinda done with following trends, and becoming more content with whatever I have because... hey, I'm lucky to have a phone compared to the many all over the world!

I’ll count this as an act of disruption of the status quo as a protest against climate change. The spirit is correct, and I’ll support the activism. If I could join them I would, but sometimes it just be like that.

This movement seems to be more so one of raising awareness rather than direct action, and awareness isn't sufficient, but awareness isn't nothing either. Our world needs aggressive and unrelenting propaganda about the problems of climate change and environmental destruction because this is a crisis, and it's going to profoundly affect us more as time goes on. So I do support the movement, even though it is not enough.

Sadly.

While it would be nice, I am pretty skeptical that it would do much in preventing us from crossing the Rubicon, especially when big corporations and certain places just simply don't give a shit about the environment.

This is the worst.

On one hand, they're right, and we should be doing more to combat climate change.

On the other hand, I presumptively side against protesters, especially youth protestors, because protests are obnoxious and youths are, too. I just want to see them fail so bad.

I'm that guy with the two buttons.

So you disagree with a protest that is working towards a goal you agree with because it is a protest and has young people leading it? :eyebrow:

No. I agree with the policy goal, and am in conflict because I simultaneously want to see the young protesters disappointed.

I presume you have a bone to pick with the youth? It’s better than them becoming apathetic and uncaring, leaving us in the hell that is the status quo?

What needs to be done is to be prepared for the, perhaps drastic, change of environmental and climate conditions on this Planet within the next decades that has already passed the point of no return. For this end individual and collective preparations and undertakings need to be done. First would be aimed at survival, individual preparation for heatwaves and related issues etc.

For the later that would be including public and national safety and emergency measures short term, and long term investitions into energy efficient technologies, thorium reactors and possible means of CO2 extraction from atmossphere and as well possibly geoengineering and last but not least spaceflight.

The whole focus on CO2 reduction alone is too late and will be too little. Whats necessary is CO2 sequestration and substraction perhaps.

Unlike climate change, mass upheaval is well documented as causing societal collapse. But I guess history’s totally irrelevant here.

Radical change for the better never happens without radical action taken in support of that change.

I fully support these protests.

They're much more radical than doing nothing or just talking online. Particularly when it's a global protest featuring millions of people in all sorts of countries, as this one is.
