We ought to react to this in the same way that we react to all incidents of foreign espionage, with a robust condemnation, cooling relations, and counter-espionage. Depending on how damaging these intelligence efforts were, we ought to contemplate sanctions as well. Since there's no reason to give money to a foreign government that is ungrateful unless we receive tangible benefits in return.

I wouldn't necessarily argue those countries are directly influencing us so much as I would say that our politicians have not pursued an America First foreign policy since the close of the Cold War and have needlessly entangled American interests with those of our allies. There's nothing wrong with having a pro-Israel or pro-Saudi foreign policy so long as it yields benefits of one sort or another.

Geopolitics and access to vital resources explain a good portion of our involvement in the Middle East. We don't want our enemies to gain a strong enough hand that they can clamp down on the flow of petroleum. We wanted Israeli intellignece resources because they could effectively engage in espionage in Russia, the Middle East, Europe, and parts of Africa with relative ease. Quite a few of those foreign policy entanglements represent a continuation of our attempts to contain the Soviets and prevent left-wing revolutions from spreading. South Korea and Japan are allies for many of the same reasons - namely we don't want them to go over to someone else or to wind up destroyed by someone who dislikes us. Abandoning Israel or Saudi Arabia won't make Iran our ally either so... we're really deciding if we want a presence there or not.
