On the contrary actually. Here's some backstory. The federal government has regulations put in place to set the level of emissions allowed right. Well California was the first state to introduce stricter laws and a couple dozen states followed in suit. Which causes car companies to priorities higher emission vehicles to be sold in other states yada yada yada. Well the federal government (Trump administration) has decided to take the power back and has ruled California's stricter laws to be unenforceable. This is the most basic, easiest way I could explain what has transpired. Now California's attorney general is threatening to sue the government if they go through with this plan.

I don't see how Trump can just cancel the exemption granted to California by the Clean Air Act. Should Congress have to amend the law? Inquiring minds and all that.

This I feel is a very good thing. I don't care which side of the climate change debate you are on. Anyone with even a shred of sanity can see that placing idiotic standards such as this only serves to paint the whole environmental movement as a bunch of clueless morons who care more about the world we live in than the quality of the lives we live. It wasn't a right given to the states in the first place. It's kind of like marijuana. The federal government has it outlawed but some states have it legalized recreationally. The power was never given to the states, they just kind of did their own thing and flexed their muscles towards the federal government with the knowledge that they wouldn't try to stop them. Well in this case the federal government seized back control.
