California loses right to set emissions standards.

So, Trump has axed California's ability to set their own emissions standards after they rolled out standards that required zero emissions.

Personally this is a good move. We should slowly cut any and every hold California has on this nation beyond the most basic of influences.

On the contrary actually. Here's some backstory. The federal government has regulations put in place to set the level of emissions allowed right. Well California was the first state to introduce stricter laws and a couple dozen states followed in suit. Which causes car companies to priorities higher emission vehicles to be sold in other states yada yada yada. Well the federal government (Trump administration) has decided to take the power back and has ruled California's stricter laws to be unenforceable. This is the most basic, easiest way I could explain what has transpired. Now California's attorney general is threatening to sue the government if they go through with this plan.

Zero emissions on all vehicles is simply implausible currently, especially in a state as large as California.

In no small part because it'll cost the end user too much in a state where everything is already expensive as hell. Maybe resolve the severe homeless problem and sanitation crisis before saying "lol everyone just buy electric : )"?

California's regulations do not require all vehicles to be zero emissions.

Well, personally I disagree with this. I hope California can fight this and can reintroduce strict emissions standards. It’s one of the few good things about California in my opinion.

I don't see how Trump can just cancel the exemption granted to California by the Clean Air Act. Should Congress have to amend the law? Inquiring minds and all that.

This I feel is a very good thing. I don't care which side of the climate change debate you are on. Anyone with even a shred of sanity can see that placing idiotic standards such as this only serves to paint the whole environmental movement as a bunch of clueless morons who care more about the world we live in than the quality of the lives we live. And that flat out discredits the whole idea.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

So much for State's Rights.

It wasn't a right given to the states in the first place. It's kind of like marijuana. The federal government has it outlawed but some states have it legalized recreationally. The power was never given to the states, they just kind of did their own thing and flexed their muscles towards the federal government with the knowledge that they wouldn't try to stop them. Well in this case the federal government seized back control.

Yes, they do. The way the legislation works is slowly but surely, it would be reduced to a zero-emissions regulaton.
