The caveat to it is they leave a pretty meager blood-trail to follow. Since a good smack into the shoulder-blade may end up precluding an exit-wound (OTOH, a hypervelocity smack to a large bone like that also means they likely won't run very far).

And if you were trying to bag a buck by busting his nads or some novelty-shot to the antlers... then more luck would be had changing your shot-placement than by upping the caliber.
