I imagine the ego that the cops have doesn't help. A falsely inflated perception of their shooting prowess can't possibly be compatible with an opportunity to prove one's actual competency.

In my experience, there are basically two sorts of cops. Those who like guns, and shoot recreational on their own time and dime. These folks are usually decent shots. Then there's the type that dislikes guns, shoots only on the mandated re-quals, and think the badge gives them the unique qualification to have a gun. These folks usually think they're good shots.

Unfortunately seems like the """good""" ones are leaving policing, leaving us with the Uvalde-tier oPerAtoRs.

Would you agree that there's a definite disparity between small town policing and big town cops? Certainly evident where I am in rural Ontario. Local police here are predominantly firearms enthusiasts, and don't really have inflated egos.

To a point. I grew up in a small town in MN, a majority of the cops there were of the holier than thou mentality, lost track of the many times we would out score the local PD at the range, both in quick short shooting and long range, pistol/rifle. I can count on two fingers of the local cops that were firearm enthusiasts and they both came from a part of MN that was much more rural than my home town.

All I really have are anecdotes, but there exist the latter types even in my rural sheriff's office, and the only LAPD officer I know is a huge gun guy.

Oh then nevermind they do have digitized records, I concede on this front.

Yeah I don't know really anything about guns but I can guarantee you I'm a better target shooter than 99% of the gun owners on this site after I far out performed the non former LEOs in my special police class when we had to do target practice despite being my first and only time ever shooting or holding a firearm.

Fucking DC is so backed up (like 18 months) that I wasn't able to get the license finalized and start working.

Police are notoriously awful with firearms. Accuracy, but also safety.

The national average is 30% accuracy which in a tense situation with combative suspects and a handgun isn't that bad

No that’s shit.

Like really shit. You’d be spending the week getting “ counseling” if ya shot that in the marines, especially in boot.

No. Handguns have nothing to do with it.

I shoot extremely well with both a rifle and a handgun, I prefer the handgun actually but it’s not the handgun

TBH, I'm surprised that isn't a thing during what is basically their boot camp, the same with stress factored force on force training. That 30% is shit and does not instill any confidence what so ever.
