Umm, so I do not fit any of those. Most people would say I have an olive tone to my skin, but I am extremely pale. I do tan a bit, but for the most part do not burn (exception being at the shoulder blades). So...none of the above?

I'm type 2 (of German, Danish, and Norwegian descent), though I personally find types 3-4 most attractive. I get a nice farmer tan every summer that's clearly visible by August-September and never truly goes away 100%, and while I don't burn that often, that's probably more so because I spend way less time outside than I'd like to, especially in our harsh Wisconsin winters.

I’m a dark II. I seldom burn unless im by a pool. My mom is Type I. Even with sunscreen she burned quickly.

I probably have type II, but also have type I because of Vitiligo (or is it type 0?). Am thinking that perhaps instead of the defining race as groupings of ethnic groups correlated to regions, it could gain more legitimacy if race were defined by skin type. But this is problematic because it overlaps too much.

Clearly a Latino isn't the same as an Asian for example, even if the same skin type is shared. They're too geographically separated and historically diverging to be considered the same race.

Type V: type 5 is dark brown skin that rarely tans and never burns. 5 is found among some people from the mediterranean, people in the Arabian oeninsula, east africa, india, southeast asia, latin America and native Americans

Doesn't sound like you've met many Vietnamese. I note you did not mention Southeast Asians under III or IV where most of them actually fit.

If you've got no rutting clue what people in Southeast Asia actually look like, maybe you should just not mention them.

You're probably a three then. The list isn't a perfect description of human skin tone, it's just the best that currently exists to categorize it, as opposed to just calling people "light colored" or "dark colored."

I'm probably Type II (German/Swedish/Irish descent). I can burn if I'm out in the sun for a long period of time without sunscreen, but I can get somewhat tanned over the summer because I'm outside more.

I burn really badly at the start of summer but then don't burn as easily after that. On a day where your average person takes 25 minutes to burn, it takes me an hour and a half to two hours

My skin is type 4 but I have a mixed ethnicity and I rarely ever tan. Although I don't go out in the sun too often, it isn't exactly rare either. I can handle the sun quite well for a few hours without a sun-brimmed hat and, so far, I've never had any skin burns as far as I can remember even without sunscreen.

Pale skin to me is really a disadvantage. It burns easily in the sun and is highly susceptible to skin cancer. Melanated skin is evolutionarily better and protects the human body. Also I think most people worldwide view the perfect skin as olive colored like the Mediterranean because it seems like people from really dark skinned countries use skin lightening creams (which are very bad for your health btw) and people from white countries are into Sun tanning.

Type III skin is probably the greatest compromise nature ever came up with. You can have cream colored skin if you want but if you don't like it, you can just go out in the sun for a few hours and come back brown colored. And your skin color can change all year long, becoming dark in summer and light in winter. I see this as an absolute win.
