I am open to trying drugs for the experience and for the shared social experience, i.e. weed or psychedelics. I also have drugs every day without even knowing about it, mostly caffeine.

I will never, ever, ever touch cocaine.

There was a woman at my former workplace who had to have a nose job in her early twenties. She was thirty when she told me this, and she said the reason was because she practically abused cocaine beyond reprieve. I'm talking David Bowie Station to Station levels of cocaine. It's one of the worst highs you can have, apparently, because it leaves you feeling like hot shit and then cold shit in a matter of minutes. Obviously, you've gotta take it again and again to even get the fraction of that first high again.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug, and I do mean hell. That and heroin. I will never do heroin, either.

This is a touchy subject.
On the one hand, I understand how people feel that they have a right to do whatever they want to their bodies, but on the other hand, as a recovering addict, I believe that certain substances, specifically those that are extremely addictive, should not ever be allowed.
It took me a long time to finally ask for help and do the work to rewire my brain (through a 12 step program) and I was "only" a lush and a pot smoker. Indeed, my lack of "real" drug use- think the "hard" stuff- heroin, cocaine, etc. is what kept me in a false sense of security for so long that I wasn't an addict.
Rehabilitation over incarceration for addicts is definitely the answer, but it is important to remember that addiction is a disease process. This disease process can be catalyzed by just one addictive drug use. Just one time using an addictive drug can cause an addict to blossom.
