Yes it is a major threat and by not taking it seriously soon enough, we may have sealed our fate. People have been so stubborn on climate change. First they claimed it wasn't real. Then "Oh it is real but it isn't our fault." Then it became " oh well it is real and we caused it but we can't stop it. " now it's "Oh maybe it won't be so bad." From day one we should have taken this seriously and yet here we are still debating about whether we're in danger

The people who reject climate change being a problem, usually do so because they have a financial incentive to keep the status quo as it is. Problem is people are in a lose lose situation, where if the status quo is kept- everyone broadly speaking is going to lose tons of money from climate change making life harder on Earth via more extreme weather and more lost productivity because of that. But people will also lose money if significant resources were devoted to fighting climate change via higher taxes and more expensive energy costs.

Either path that is taken or anywhere inbetween, is basically going to result in some reduction in standard of living if not struggle before clean, renewable energy, truly ever becomes cheap, affordable, and wide spread. No one really wants to have to sacrifice but some invitably will wind up having to.

Now will we all die off or will all the ice melt? I doubt it. But we will have more intense storms and Summers that last for 6 months with temps regularly hitting 104F/40C

A 2 degrees Celsius rise will raise ocean heat to levels that are dangerously bad for many organisms.
