Sorry, will answer seriously now. I would advocate educating state. Just teach ppl the effects of alcohol on the body/ brain. You could have this really cool science lesson were everyone gets to drink 1 dose of alcohol. And children have to write a report/ multi media project on the effects of said dose on themselves. Outside school drinking would still be frowned upon.

And what and how much of booze ia in a dose? Is it a sake cup of beer? Or a bottle of vodka mixed with cola?

In 1 glass of beer is as much alcohol as in 1 glass of vodka. (They are different in size) so, children would get 1 glass of vodka, no cola added. (2cl)

It would be in the morning, they should not have eaten a lot beforehand. The rest of the day they would have to monitor their state, do math ( with timer) normal questionnaires and language tests

The day before they should have a nice healthy breakfast, and do tests with timer etc. That would be the base line.

So no music, no atmosphere, no illegality.

At what age would you have this done? When I was 14 this would have had no visible affects on me as I have been drinking at home since I was about 11.

But it would. Because of the setting and the empty stomach.

See the day before you get to have a healthy breakfast and tea/ water/ juice etc you will do tests and time them etc.

Day 2, you had barely anything to eat and had had alcohol, and have to do tests and time them.

Edit, it is like the wine you drink on a vacation, there it tasted great. The best wine ever.
Back at home, that wine is mediocre at best. Because of the setting.
If you do measure the effects of alcohol on yourself, the happy buzz is not as intense than when you are chatting at the dinner table of on a party hanging with friends.

Yes, there should be a minimum drinking age. No drinking whiskey that is under six years old!

Okay, more seriously. There is a purchasing age, and I think that's fine.

A drinking age, eh, my parents gave me beer(max. one on an evening, not on a school night) when I was below purchasing age, just to try and get used to it. There is not much issue there. I vastly prefer the "slowly try it out" rather than full on "nothing until 18 and then everything at once" that is gaining grounds in NL.

When I was 16, and they'd bought me 5 pints that afternoon at the rugby club, then I went to stay at my grandmas and they gave me 6 for the night, I think we all realised that they'd lost the game.

There ought to be a purchasing age, maybe 16 and that’s it. I grew up at home being allowed a tiny glass of whatever the adults were drinking and it meant I always had a mature attitude to alcohol and seeing it as a compliment to a meal or as a digestif as opposed to just a a vehicle to Seshlehem.

19? 21?

Most armies accept people from 18 years on. If you can die for your country, surely you can have a drink first?

They’re going to get drunk anyway. I spent many happy nights at that age black out drunk in a field or at house parties. Get a fucking life

Why? What difference does it make? Are 40 year olds who happen to be drunk, capable of making better decisions than a 15 year old who is drunk?

By mature I mean bring able to appreciate it as a drink.

Plus it’s better to learn those lessons young whilst you still have many safeguards. You don’t want to be that one person in uni halls whose never properly been on it and gets utterly gollywonkered after a pint or a handful of shots. Americans are the worst culprits for this tbh.

Society would be better off without recreational drugs, especially alcohol that have ruined countless families. People of aboriginal descent especially I have heard at least are very vulnerable to the effects of liquor. I think however that prohibition would be difficult to achieve without unintended consequences of organized crime. You'd have to have a robust police state in force to make sure that policy is enforced I think. Education, taxing alcohol sales, reducing alcohol concentration, and enforcing a drinking age are vital to ensuring public health.

Seeing children or pregnant mothers drink alcohol is horrible.

Very amused at the idea of a rake of posh lads in a field discussing the subtle balance of flavours in their cans of Tesco lager.

I’ll appreciate the flavour in a pint of local ale/stout.

If we were getting smashed in a field it was usually cans of strongbow and bottles of jack Daniels
