I think 16 for beer and 18 for liquor like Germany has is reasonable. An underage person possessing alcohol shouldn't be a crime, although I do think it would be good to regulate the selling side, so that stores aren't selling alcohol to kids.

I agree. If an adolescent is drinking behind the school or whatever, then confiscate the booze and make sure their parents talk to them about it, but putting kids through the criminal justice system over alcohol possession is insane.

I hate these minor in possession laws. Like what's the idea? "Oh alcohol will ruin your life so we're gonna ruin your life as punishment for you trying to ruin yours." My city has been having a surge in violent crime, I bet those police resources would be better allocated toward stopping gang violence than confiscating booze from teens
