You could cut them some slack considering that environmental activism is unfortunately mostly just deceptive signaling for something else. Environmental policies in democracies are generally driven by hysteria as opposed to coherent policymaking. Climate change is real but a lot of unreal things are being strawmanned into it and used as a drive for other set of policies, either consciously or just as a natural result of democratic arbitration. Green New Deal comes to mind. The more recent rage for Amazon fires - nevermind that NASA noted that it was actually slightly below average when compared to the last 15 years, there are just more frequent small fires - that is obviously a political drivel directed against the Brazilian government is another.
