I don't get not telling your family. I mean what's to hide? Your beliefs are part of who you are, and if they can't handle that then their not really family, are they? It's really not healthy to lie constantly imo. Whatever tho, you do you.

Some people react very badly to members of their family not following the same religion as them.

Because any logical argument made for the existence of one god is necessarily going to fit for the existence of other gods, if you tweak it a bit. Whether or not gods exist or not is a question, but if they exist, it is logically impossible for there to be "one" and "only one".

Eh, I don't see it. How is it logically impossible? Just because you might be able to use similar arguments for one God as you would another, doesn't mean that there isn't just one God. That's not proof.

Sure it does. The existence of god, by definition, can not be proven. The best we can do is provide arguments on why it does (or does not) exist. If you use an argument to suggest that "therefore THIS god exists", you can use the same argument (with a few changes) to suggest that "Therefore THIS god exists too". Any argument to say "Only this god can exist" is by definition illogical, and thus if you "prove" one god exists, the same argument proves the existence of other gods. That's why monotheism is illogical (and the only thing you can with certainty know is simply wrong), it shoves its own head in the snow.

Your "addressing" of that was... underwhelming. It's not cowardice to not want to provoke people you care about due to their misconceptions of atheism.

If thats the reaction you recieve then those people obviously don't love you, and it's best to remove yourself from that situation as soon as your financially or legally able, and then tell them, as I've already said. Why continue living a lie for people who would turn on you like that? Yes, I've addressed it, people getting their feelings hurt by the use of the word cowardice, oh well, maybe a poor choice of words.

Eh, I don't see how you've disproved anything. Firstly, as you said you can't prove the existence of God as of yet, so all arguments for religion are based off of faith. Why would paganism be better suited to being correct over monotheism? Either God exists, or multiple Gods exist, or no Gods exist etc. it doesn't matter the argument used it either is or isn't, not sure if I'm articulating in an easy to understand way.

I'm not arguing about the merits of a personal god. I'm talking about the logic behind the existence of gods. Whether or not gods exist in general (I can't answer that. I don't know.) is not the same as whether there is "One God". The logic behind the existence of any supreme being is shaky at best, but the argument that "only one supreme being can exist" is illogical by its very nature. When you make an argument on why a god should exist, but don't extend it to the gods you don't want to exist (say, when you argue that God exists but Zeus, Odin, Set, etc. don't) you're intentionally suspending your use of logic. At least in my opinion.

Well, the argument is based off of religious doctrine, so if God exists, according to him he is the only God, and he also never lies, so in that case there can be no other Gods. I agree with you in that if there can be one there *theoretically* could be more than one, but if you follow an abrahamic religion then you believe there is only one, and just because it's possible that there could have been more doesn't mean there actually are more. Y'know what I'm saying? Idk, I just don't see it.

The funny thing about humans is that we can be very contradictory. The people who kick you out could very well love you, while at the same time being horrible to you.
Similarly, you can still love someone who was and is horrible to you. Love is illogical like that.

To some it's a cost/benefit thing, as dispassionate as that sounds. Is revealing their beliefs (or lack thereof) worth losing everything they hold dear. For many, the answer is no.

Removing oneself from the situation as soon as you're financially and/or legally able is a big problem as well. Often time, the people who get kicked out aren't in that position, so you must continue to "live a lie" until they are in that position.

If the same logic "proves" that two gods exists, and both gods have at some point claimed the other does not exist, how do you resolve that contradiction?

Life is meaningless. Make it mean whatever you want it to mean.

For example, my meaning is to be happy, and to have other people be happy, because I like being happy and think others should get a chance to like it as well.

Never give up, march on, no matter the odds until we can no more. Realizing our own mortality and limits, pass the torch to the next generation for they be better and get a little further. And repeat, until we're there.

That is by no means easy and its as slow as the first steps some aquatic creature might have done billions of years ago as it tried to move itself onto the land. But it is nonetheless necessary.

But life's purpose since the moment it began was to keep existing. Think about it, everything reproduces. It's an inherent drive in all beings to preserve their species, so that could be called a meaning of life

For example, my meaning is to be happy, and to have other people be happy, because I like being happy and think others should get a chance to like it as well.

But life's purpose since the moment it began was to keep existing. Think about it, everything reproduces. It's an inherent drive in all beings to preserve their species, so that could be called a meaning of life

This is correct but incomplete, we as humans not just merely reproduces (though thats what the majority simply does) but also advance and advance. Soon enough we will be able to speed up the later process through genetic engineering and other means.
