t’s just a joke, but doctors are worried for the patient’s health and can’t really tell a joke and a sincere question such times. If they let him/her go with that advice approved, the family could complain if the patient was sincere about it and his health deteriorated, and the doctor could lose his job.

Could be that frightening, but just my thoughts on the matter.

I did, indeed. Decent enough fellow. I bought wine from his father, John, too. Funny Geoffrey being such a good poet and a civil servant at one and the same time. Met him through the Duchess of Clarence, Elizabeth de Burgh, the wife of Lionel, the Duke. It was a kind of whirlwind of connections in those days, and the people you knew made a world of difference.
