Basically, internationally produced cartoons and picture books are becoming more popular in Mainland China than locally produced ones. It appears that it's pissing off the CCP.

Last year I was in a reconstructed GDR classroom in a museum. All the original textbooks were there. The sheer amount of propaganda in them was astonishing. There was propaganda in every conceivable textbook: languages, engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, arts and crafts, history, etc etc. I have no doubt that the textbooks would have been a third of the size if they had left the propaganda out.

Mathematic questions in communist learning material probably went more like having to calculate how much fuel would be needed for a Red Army tank division during exercises, knowing how much fuel usually is consumed by a T-72 MBT per kilometer and the average distance driven by those glorious combat machines defending the Motherland during such events. Also keep in mind that these triumphs of Soviet engineering tend to burn more fuel when traversing rough terrain.
