I have no reason to believe the corruption charges were illegitimate, and it takes an especially bad president to make people vote for Bolsonaro.

Wouldn Lula have been "inconvieniently" imprisoned he would have faced Bolsonaro in the last elections and may have won them.

After given the corresponding circumstances that led to both his imprisonment and release it seems rather to be "okay, this Lula guy, he may have let get some people away with some shady stuff lets throw him in jail!" and now its like "Uhm, ehm, throwing him in jail was probably not so a good idea also this Bolsonaro guy doesnt looks like hes going to last long so lets free him again!"

And no. When it comes to such cases, specifically - but not only - in places like Brazil, I don't buy it that it isn't to varying degrees a politically motivated manouver to temporarily or permanently remove him from the field by means of imprisonment.

Eitherway, next time it will be Bolsonaro whos behind bars. So whoever is in charge throws its opponent into jail preemptively.

In other words, the usual South American political shitshow as usual. Which by the way North America seems now very eager to adopt with the calls to lock Clinton up and now all the more with the very dedicated effort by Pelosi and her acolythes to bring President Trump behind bars... ;^)

Speaking of South American politics:

In a twist of absolute irony, the same opposition groups that have been screaming about Evo Morales being elected in a fraudulent election have gone ahead and destroyed numerous ballots which would have otherwise acted as evidence to these charges of voter fraud.

I bet a couple RWDTers will come in to proclaim that this is a good thing, but I love how the people screaming fraud are trying to hide to truth to their bullshit claims lmao.

Considering he would’ve won if he had been on the Ballot, you might want to rethink your claim.

I mean I could probably arrange that if you really want that too happen...You just need to ask :P Anyways sorry for the intrusion, but I do have an honest question for you all if you would care to indulge me: Compared to centrist and right wing stances, what is it about left leaning ideologies and ideas that draws you to them/causes you to support such ideas? I know it seems like an odd question, but I am honestly curious as to what you all will say.

I, personally, despise the very nature of Capitalism, from how it creates socioeconomic inequality with next to no means for the vast majority of people to escape from, divides people by class into generally impoverished, always subservient workers and the usually rich, business-owning bourgeoisie, and from the abhorrent conditions it creates by practically deifying profits above anything and everything, up to and including humanity itself. As such, I wish to have a system wherein nobody is driven to hurt or born into it by the amoral, unethical system that is Capitalism - which prioritizes greed above all else: that system, for me, being Capitalism's natural antithesis, Socialism. The reason for that's simple enough: through the creation of a radically new economic system where the economy's means of production are socially and democratically owned by the people, rather than privately by a few individuals who own almost all and share none, then perhaps no one will ever again be left yearning for a better life, free from the pains of hunger, poor health, or the fear of homelessness and so much more because of their impoverishing station in life.

I'm not talking about those fun little examples of """Socialism""" that Marxist-Leninist countries like the USSR or their derivatives built when I say Socialism, of course, which were only Socialist insomuch as it was a fancy word for them to use to garner international support from the left while, in reality, they brought about reprehensible amounts of harm and horror to their subjects. I'm talking about actual, bonafide Socialism as it is actually defined - that being the social ownership of the means of production - and not the farcical mockery of Socialism that those authoritarian regimes built.

This is a very good analysis. Sometimes in corrupt countries we have to throw our hands up and accept some level of corruption in the meantime. In corrupt countries, when corrupt officials are imprisoned, it's either especially egregious (which doesn't appear to be the case) or politically motivated. If corruption is what gets things done in your country, sometimes very good politicians will comply with the unspoken rules of the corrupt institutions.

Yes, I’m sure you hate it when you get more people to snark at, Torr. It’s why you’re basically asking for them to come into the thread, to argue with you about a country very few people on NS care about. I’ll remember this little pity-party line the next time you start a fight in RWDT.

Incredibly corrupt and a scumbag, should have been locked-up, but also didn’t last long enough to do much. Barely anyone remembers him, and that’s probably the best punishment one could give him.

I haven't posted in the RWDT to any serious degree in nearly a year now. The cries of hypocrisy levied toward me hold no weight whatsoever.

Either way, it's extremely satisfying to see that my point's being proven simply by calling out certain behaviors. :3
