I meant to say fascist. Damn autocorrect…

I mean we have been on an authoritarian streak for a while. The last president to oppose the use of authoritarian measures was JFK (somewhat), and he got his head blown off. Case in point, JFK was horrified that the CIA would plant cells in American cities, and launch false flag massacres to ignite support for a war against Cuba. He understandably fired the innovator behind the plans.

America, despite seemingly taking some steps towards authoritarianism within the past few years, is far from becoming a fascist nation. To be quite honest, I would say the possibility of it doing so is fairly remote within the next twenty years, let alone the next two to five years. If anything, the United States is closer to becoming a socialist nation or at the very least undergo a shift towards the left wing.

Socialist as a fringe movement maybe considering the fact two red scares, and government purges of anything remotely smelling like the USSR had funded it has damaged such movements beyond repair (for now). American use of authoritarianism is more of a security theater mixed with a Palpatine like "safe, and secure society" than outright authoritarianism in the mode of Xi Jinping.

There’s a bit of a difference between “opposing authoritarianism” and not wanting ones own citizens massacred. But yes. America has been getting more authoritarian for a while.

Not even remotely. The US has steadily been becoming more and more authoritarian since the '30's but that does not equate to fascism.

Your problem here is that you believe YouTube comments are worthy of discussion.

The average YouTube commentator has the collective mental capacity of a walnut if their posts are anything to go by. Odds are half of them are probably trolling and the rest are just idiots. There's a reason they say "don't read the comments" when you watch YT videos; it's quite literally a cancerfest of misinformation, propaganda, edginess, trolling, conspiracy theories, reality detachment, and incomprehensible gibberish.

No, America is not becoming a Fascist nation and is nowhere near that point nor is such a thing possible in the foreseeable future. Trump - though awful - is not a Fascist, either. Some Fascists may even take offense at the notion he is.

We're crazy

Nazis were big government, socialists. The Republicans are small government, capitalists.

Socialism led to Fascism, Nazism, and Communism.
Socialism is about controlling the markets while Capitalism is about allowing people to control the markets.

Highly doubt it won't become like xi china. Our government is not protecting us, it's protecting itself

No. I don't think so. It's just ONE MAN in The White House promoting too much hate. That's all. A Fascist country would never have a Democratic House Speaker as it's leader. And yes i am talking about Speaker Pelosi who is our current House Speaker.

We could have pumped the brakes there and been done here.

More polarized, absolutely (including in nationalism and totalitarianism, not necessarily linked).
More violent, absolutely.
Parts are becoming more totalitarian, and some are not.

No, I do not think America is becoming a Fascist nation. We continue to be free and capitalist.

It's protecting the ideal it has of the country even if we are no longer in the Bush presidency post-9/11.

Hardly such thing as a small-gov federal politician these days.

How does abortion have anything to do with that though?

Not yet.

It's just a populist President and some tensions. Other countries have that since longer times and they didn became fascist or whatever over it either. Just this time it is happening in ones own place. Feels a bit different eh? ^^

Also, we need a poll. This kind of thread isnt good without a poll.

We are not getting more conservative. America is extreamly left wing. There are almost no people in the country who are right wing.

Terms..terms..

Who are "liberals"?

Who are "the left wing"?

I always hate it when most people talk about generic terms such as these. What do they even mean at all? What is the left wing? Atheists? Environmentalists? Communists? Anarchists? Or..even..non-white ethnonationalists (!)

Leftism isn’t generic, though. It has a certain set of conditions that have to be met for any of the specific strains of leftist thought to be considered left wing.

Liberal is by necessity relative to society and one’s individual culture.
