lol I think putting an ankle monitor on your child is a bit creepy at any age.

I would consider getting a gps tracking app for a young child's phone/a watch, but only for safety, and because I believe in the Japanese way of letting your kids wander around town all they want (assuming it's not a bad place to live) with minimal supervision. Could be because that's how I was raised and I never got into trouble--granted, I was an extremely neurotic kid...so *I* was the parental supervision of the block.
After they're 13 or so I'd trust them enough to not run into ongoing traffic or get into a stranger's van.
