Shoe Discussion Thread

Postby Great Algerstonia » Thu Aug 08, 2019 12:19 pm

Hi. This discussion thread is made to discuss types of shoes? What footwear are shoes, and what footwear AREN't shoes? Are sandals with socks good or bad? Do you think it is good to wear shoes that aren't trendy? Go ahead and discuss! Anything that's related to shoes can be discussed here.

I'll start this thread off with this question: What is your favorite shoe company?

My answer is Nike. Nike shoes are quite comfortable, and they have always worked well for me when I play basketball. I currently wear Nike Air Monarch IVs.
Anti: Russia
Pro: Prussia

Yea, I got you. J's are good shit, especially retro air low tops are good shit.

Normally I wear Air Mavins when I hit the court.

Though you can't test sandals when you just want to walk out of the house.

Steel toes always were somewhat uncomfortable for me. Do you just prefer 'em, or do you work with them?

It's too bad PayLess ShoeSource isn't around anymore. What is the equivalent people go to now for the most budget footwear?

My feet don't grow anymore, so I keep shoes for much longer. It can last for many years for me anyways. Haven't needed new shoes until the bottom sole really is too worn. Outdoor boots for yard work are even more rugged, suitable for mountains.

I like to wear Manoletinas (I think they’re called flat pumps in English) for everyday and casual wear. If fancy, I wear heels. When working out, tennis shoes. If it’s cold, boots.

How do y'all wear heels? Like actually. When I look at a woman wearing heels, my feet hurt...

As a woman? You just learn to, really. I think I started “training” with them at around 13 years of age. When you’re going to a fancy event, heels just make you look well put together and elegant.

To be honest, I think the sneaker game is pretty dead as of now, no big releases. It probably won't pick up again until late fall/early winter, since Bred 11's and Bred 1's are (rumoured) to be rereleasing around that time. thought I should mention that. Anyway, my favourite shoes are Vans sneakers, they look very nice and go with anything, and the Ultracush soles are really comfy.

Sneakers/sport shoes mostly, sometimes also boots. Whatever works. Got also a nice pair of jump boots.

And a few more or less fancy sandals for summer.

I'm definitely a boot guy. I jacked my toes up with a shitty pair of boat shoes I got for free and bought steel toes to protect them while they healed and kind of liked them despite my impression that anyone not on a construction site wearing steel toes was a bit of a tool. But tapping them against stuff in a fidget was nice, and I got use to catching shit with the toe as they fell. I don't do work where I'm around heavy falling shit as much any more so I haven't been getting steel toes lately, but Caterpillars were my favorite. I don't like sneakers that much.

When I gots to be fancy I've taken to what I think are called 'chukkas', basically fancy shoe boots.

Kind of looking for what my next footwear is going to be, something between the big construction boots I've been wearing and something more casual and relaxed.

My feet always hurt. I have a hardened callus on my pinky toes where they eventually wear through the sides of my shoes. Size 13EE in US and still not a good fit no matter the brand. I'd love to be able to work from home and simply not wear the damn things but that's not a real option in my line of work.

In the summer, I wear sandals, and when school is in session, I wear sneakers. My sneakers are Asics, and I have Dr. Scholl's arch supports in them (I have flat feet).

If it has a closed toe, it's not a sandal.

If it's got a strap for the toes and no other strap... it's a jandal. This is particularly true if it's a thong type strap.

If it's otherwise open toed, it's a sandal.

If it has a closed toe and no holes revealing the foot (or sock) within, it's a shoe or a boot. Boots are probably defined by whether or not the "shoe" goes over the ankle.

If it has a closed toe and is of a flexible fabric with a reinforced sole, it's a shock. Basically only babies and very young toddlers wear these.

If it's otherwise close toed, it's a shandal.

Socks in jandals and sandals... looks unusual, unless the wearer looks like an adult man and is wearing sandals. No socks in shoes... look odd. No socks in shandals... honestly, looks odd. There's nothing wrong with these... although socks are immensely practical when it comes to wearing shoes... it's just that too few people do these things for them to not look unusual. (Adult men rarely wear, in my experience, sandals without socks so the norm reference differs.)

The only people who should give a shit about shoe brands are people cannot reliably find shoes in their size. This means anyone who wears bigger than UK 12/US 13/EU 47 because a metric crap tonne of companies literally do not manufacture shoes in such sizes. Hence, paying attention to brands is a practical matter.

Bare feet are obviously the superior "footwear" unless the ground is dangerous or extremely muddy. In the latter case, I suggest gumboots. Because, you know. Sufficient mud will rip your shoes right off... not good if it's an oyster bed you're walking on (trust me on this).

EDIT: dammit, forgot that slippers were a thing... if they're not shocks and intended to be worn inside (as in pretty much exclusively) then whatever they look like, they're slippers.

I think that's covered all bases.

I wear flip flops year round, except for at the barn where I wear boots. My feet dont get cold, so flip flops in snow arent a problem for me, and I only wore real shoes last winter on the days wear it said exposed skin would give me frostbite in like 10 minutes. Flip flops are the best show cause they barely enclose my feet and are easy to take off.
You're probably glad I'm gone. Just cleaning up shit then I'll cte forever

He's recently stated that he's okay with Kaepernick now:

US President Donald Trump says he would "love to see" Colin Kaepernick play in the NFL again "if he's good enough".

Clearly Trump is a Nike shoe fan who reads NSG and has taken appropriate measures. Only possible explanation.
