The parents tell us the child was bleeding from his ear for nearly six hours after the incident.

I would like to politely point out that while there is mental illness involved, this is just too much. It doesn't justify in every single way, like ever.

Is putting on the hat disrespecting an anthem? I can't make that call, but if that's your opinion, sure, that's fine. More power to you.
Ask the kid to take off the hat nicely? Yeah, sure. Would be a little weird, but why not, right? Can't hurt to ask.

Well, that would definitely do it. For those who don't know (which is a lot of people in my experience), brain injuries can really screw up your ability to reason and restrain yourself, and impair your ability to think. I mean, it can do pretty much anything to you, but that's the most common thing. A huge sign of brain injury is a person becoming uncharacteristically aggressive or, immediately after receiving the injury, being violent (and completely unaware that they are being so). There was a police officer in hot shit water a few years ago because he tazed a semi-unconscious person with severe brain injury who was swinging violently and punching everyone. And then he got into even more trouble when he then proceeded to threaten an EMT for telling him to stop.

I think instead of talking about the good old soc left vs soc right, let's discuss an underdiscussed topic, namely child rights.

It's common for children to be beaten for non-criminal "offenses" that adults aren't punished at all for. Why is that the case? My reasoning is that it is due to the simple fact that children are weak. If you are weak you are abused.
