I think increased awareness of child support law that has forced the issue. The risks of sex were always a factor, but our middle school sex ed didn't tell us that even if a woman claims before sex that she wouldn't keep the baby, you are still going to be thrown into poverty by child support bills if she decides otherwise. I had to look up child support law and news stories of "dead-broke dads" to discover that, and it wouldn't have even been brought to my attention if not for the Internet.

All of those problems could easily be avoided if men acted responsibly and used protection or did not have sex if they could not afford having children.
