Right, it's not just poverty that is the issue but I do think the broader sense of hopelessness and despair stemming from an increasing lack of upward mobility plays a role. Inequality in nominal terms was just as bad in the 1920s and prior as it is today but people weren't committing mass shootings.


Economic issues are indicative of normal criminal activity. Poor people burgle, or rob, or sell drugs. They don't go on spree shootings.

Because most of the people who get radicalized are social failures, and social failures tend to be ugly as a rule unless they have some kind of underlying mental illness.

Yeah, but Hitler was loaded up on drugs and also riddled with health problems that would have gotten him euthanized under Aktion T4 if he weren't the Fuhrer. And Goering was institutionalized as a drug addict during his early Nazi career, again another candidate for Aktion T4.
