Hurricanes headed for Hawaii

Erick is on its way toward Hawaii, and Flossie is hot on its trail. Erick's expected to just miss to the south, but Flossie looks like it could be a direct hit.

Why can't they build a gigantic horizontal wind turbine to the east of Hawaii, so that any passing hurricane loses at least some of its energy to the blades of the turbine AND generates electricity they could store for later use?

How do we know this? Because the first step toward Communism is Socialism, and none of the aforementioned are even remotely Socialist in any way, shape, or form.

We will be okay, and there's nothing really to do if it's a huge disaster.

Interesting. Typhoons are only for Asia. I always thought any cyclonic system in the Pacific was a typhoon.

Ah, the Bloop. Always disturbing as all hell to hear the recording.

Oddly a typhoon has sprung out of nowhere here in HK and they're likely to raise a T8 shortly, it's not a bad one but it's quite early and it kind of popped up out of the blue.

It's water coming up from the Antarctic. Stops Cyclones from forming and keeps Cthulhu nice and cool.

I doubt building huge wind turbines will help fan off the storm. Wind that is generated could diffuse into other areas, thus of no help to ease the intensity of the storm.

And what’s the point of building wind turbines when they’ll just be knocked down by hurricanes?

No, it wasn't. Wind turbines in general (slightly) reduce wind speeds that pass through them. It stands to reason that a large enough one, aligned horizontally, and designed to handle the winds, would do the same.

I'd guess that it's just not possible for a wind turbine of any design to handle hurricane force winds. And I don't think there'd be any point in aligning it horizontally.

Trump has promised to withhold aid until Hawaii votes Republican in the Presidential elections.

Is this a serious post? Such a turbine would not only be ridiculously expensive it would be impractical. Plus I doubt a wind turbine would have any effect on a hurricane. Wind shear is effective at cloud tops not at sea level I think. Im not a meteorologist though.
