tbh, the thing that bothers me the most is that they didn't bother to get consensus from the student body. The students are the one who walk those halls and see those murals every day; let them decide whether the murals should be removed or not.

The whole idea that the removal of these murals is historical revisionism, however, is nonsense. They're thirteen murals from a San Francisco high school that I bet none of us have ever heard of. Not like they're crossing out unsavory lines in their history textbooks. The school board is just being hypersensitive and thinks that discussion of historical wrongs needs to be kept in the classroom, not the hallways. The whole "reparations" thing is a really petty excuse--as if the Native American and African American communities would be overjoyed if a San Francisco high school painted over a few murals.

If the murals will be destroyed, I like the idea of at least painting over them with something new. But this time, San Francisco, get the students involved.
