Rip Rutger

Postby The Blaatschapen » Thu Jul 25, 2019 6:16 am

One of the few Dutch Hollywood stars is gone.

Rest in peace, Rutger Hauer :(

Probably best known for his role in Blade Runner among the non dutchies.

For the dutchies, soldaat van Oranje.

He played the part of Roy Batty very well, I couldn't imagine anyone else playing it. He also voiced the main character in a videogame called Observer recently, which I also thought was a good performance.

Never heard of him, but it's sad news and at least he left a legacy.

Well, that's not true.

We still have some sporters.

And Famke Janssen, Carice van Houten if we stay in Hollywood.

Blind Fury and Wanted: Dead or Alive were fun to watch.

And Buffy the Vampire Slayer (film) was a good laugh.

:( I was going to post this. I liked him.

He was offered Das Boot but turned it down for Blade Runner.

He probably had the finest death soliloquy ever.

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."

Rutger had changed it from what was:

I’ve seen things… seen things you little people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion bright as magnesium… I rode on the back decks of a blinker and watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments… they’ll be gone.

RIP Rutger.

Yup. I'm glad that he changed it, as the line as scripted was clunky as hell.

How was he never a villain in James Bond, I almost have him as a false memory as a Bond villain, or was he? I'm confused. I think I'm thinking of Christopher Walken in A View to a Kill.

Anyway, just for Bladerunner alone, but I also liked The Hitcher.

Also it completely skipped me by that Ross Perot died, one would have thought on a political forum there'd be a thread.

My 9th grade history class went through like a half dozen teachers that year, the second-to-last one basically gave up and just had us watch Ladyhawke every day. I literally only remember him from that and from that one episode of Alias that he guest starred in.
