As an aside, what is your position on guns Kannap? Genuinely curious.

I am personally uncomfortable around them, have never held or fired one but have been near them. I believe mass shootings are an issue we need to do something about but genuinely have no really good, firm idea of what a solution would look like. I believe gun ownership is a right in the United States, and while I've been vehemently anti-gun (even in this forum) years in the past, I'd say I've grown to support the 2nd Amendment more than in the past, I still believe the 1st Amendment is the most important though.

Ah cool. I own a few, but perhaps surprisingly in light of that I'm generally supportive of some reasonable restrictions on them.

I think most gun owners are generally supportive of reasonable restrictions, just the NRA has created this sense of fear that first comes the reasonable things and then comes an outright ban. So even something that a lot of people agree sound good, like a mental background check turns into "they're going to steal your guns!!!!"

Unfortunately, gun grabbers seem hell bent on proving them right.

How do we know this? Because the first step toward Communism is Socialism, and none of the aforementioned are even remotely Socialist in any way, shape, or form.

Nonsense. For years the "gun grabbers" have been meeting them more than halfway with pitiful half-measures like proposed assault weapons bans, micro-stamping bills, closing the gun show loophole, etc.
And gun nuts kept smearing them as "coming for your guns" anyway. This proved beyond a reasonable doubt that reality had no influence on gun nuts' worldview, which should've been no surprise from a worldview built on the idea that a bunch of non-uniformed civilians opening fire on a mass shooter and becoming indistinguishable FROM the shooter was a good idea.
It's only now that we realize that, no matter what we do, we were going to be falsely accused of "coming for your guns," that we have nothing to lose by actually doing so.
Welcome to the natural consequences of crying wolf.

Humanity has always faced threats that can't be avoided and must be killed. In this case, guns are acceptable. Guns used for indiscriminate killing are obviously wrong but that's only a tiny subset of the population. We've seen that banning guns doesn't really affect murder rate, as killers will just find a better way to kill. In order to combat indiscriminate murder we need to address the cultural climates that gather violent minds together.
