I don't believe we should change the way we say specific words because of it. Instead, we could just use the pronouns people want to be addressed with. I also don't see why people are getting offended by words like "manhole." So, if what I said offended anyone, it wasn't meant to, and I apologize.

I think "Maintenance access" makes more sense since not all of them are going into sewers.

But "manhole" is generally understood to mean an access point where the opening is large enough for a person to fit through, whereas "maintenance access" is a catchall term that doesn't imply this distinction.

Berkeley really isn't doing itself any favors here.
