An Italian traditionalist would agree with me.

That's because in old Italy they didn't happen to be obsessed with wood.

Traditionalists do change their views over time. However they are several hundred years behind modernists....

Not quite. You still have to fell the trees (requires fuel), cut the wood (requires fuel), move the wood (requires fuel)...
...and then they burn up nicely.

Treated wood is quite resistant in case of fire, while metal bends dangerously.

Sure. Still, when you build with concrete or bricks, the resulting buildings last for centuries.

Yeah but try to talk to a traditionalist about that. They aren't going to be swayed by pragmatic concerns.

Balloon construction is a fairly recent development in the building industry. I think we are swayed by it just fine.

The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

The most fundamental problem of politics is not the control of wickedness but the limitation of righteousness.

A. Wood housing isn't unique to Japan, a lot of Western nations use it
B. If you want to get rid of wood housing for fire safety, you're going to need to tear down and rebuild the majority of the US and Canada, because they both use predominately wood housing (I don't think there's a single stone or concrete house in my entire town, tbh...)
