This isn't the sticking-point question you would think it would be. The trouble is that there are a good many Christians who believe that they are to be "salt and light" in the world--preserving what is considered to be good and exposing/destroying what is considered to be evil. They believe that they are God's spokespeople, God's representatives, to Earth, and it is up to them to command what they believe God commands. Everyone else's business *is* their business, because everyone's business is God's business. Remember too that these Christians view the universe, not as a democracy, but as an absolute monarchy.
I can speak to this because I used to be "one of them" until I came out.

I wonder if meeting a gay Jew would make his head explode.

Unless of course you're a Christian who believes in the Bible, in which case you would be violating the commission Christ gave to His disciples by engaging in such activities. But why split hairs over the issue that you're heading for hell for disobeying Christ.

Setting aside the whole issue of multiple-person marriage, which is not the point here, why go to all this trouble when we can simply allow same-sex couples - two people - to marry in the same way any heterosexual couple can? Seriously, where I live it costs any straight couple ten bucks and a couple of signatures to get married.

Which commission would that be?

Things Jesus personally said about homosexuality:
I think that's all of it.
