Trump won because he played on the fears of large amounts of americans. Many people voted for him because they had no job and their towns were literally dying and trump's populism appealed to them more than the establishment democrats and republicans usual empty promises. These kinds of people are uncomfortable with Trump's racial rhetoric but don't feel like they have another choice so they went with trump. There is however a significant amount of trumpsters who are racists. Some are unconsciously racist in the sense they'll claim to not hate latinos and simply want legal immigration, but then they'll think most Hispanic Americans are illegals and they'll hate Muslims and anyone who looks Muslim while saying they're just against "terrorism." Then there's the more open and out the closet racists known as the alt right, who have an organized and institutionalized racial ideology that puts whites and east Asians above brown and black people and seeks a race war. Most Americans don't like racism but when it came down to trump vs hillary, clearly one of the two crooks would win and it happened to be trump

This will make no difference to him. People who dislike Trump already know he's a dog-whistling old bigot. People who do like him already agree with him, people who don't like him but support him anyway will rationalise it away with 'jobs' 'the economy' 'he makes the trains run on time' or 'but Hillary' and 'But AOC'.

The laws or political gravity don't apply to Trump, because nobody is willing to enforce them upon him. Any other candidate would have been disqualified from consideration for less than half of what he said. Instead he was elected President. Hoping the next outrageous thing he said will be the end of him won't work, it never has.

Only getting out in droves to vote him and his full rotten gang out has any chance of doing anything. Looking at typical US election voting stats, I'm not hopeful.
