Memorable NS'ers (2019 Edition)

We last had a thread on this topic in 2016-2017, and I figured it's time for a revival. I'm a nostalgia buff, NS and otherwise, and I was just hoping this thread could be a place where we could talk about the users of the past who impacted our lives in some way, for better or for worse.

I might be showing my age here, but bear with me:
  • Dyakovo (RIP) - great guy, refreshingly brutally honest
  • Kryozerkia - mod I never had problems with
  • Ardchoille - nation is still active, another mod from "back in my day"
  • Jenrak - another former mod, hope he's okay
  • Sedgistan - my first mod encounter, April 2012
  • Dread Lady Nathicana - mod team hasn't been the same since she was fired :(
  • Goobergunchia - the friendly new mod from back in my day, maybe modding was too stressful for him
Others I remember: Hippostania (still around under a new nation), Skibereen/Temujinn, The Truth and Light, Bluth, Blakk Metal (still around), Mike the Progressive, Vonners/Rubiconic Crossings, Chinese Regions, Ganos Lao, Nightkill the Emperor, Benomia/Bezombia, Lianhua (late-2013 TET'er who racked up over 9000 posts in about six weeks, then left after it was discovered her "sisters' nations" were in fact her puppets, with flags being pictures of random women), Avalar, New England and The Maritimes, The Republic of Lanos, Panzerjaeger/Mussoliniopoli, Neo Art, Vandengaarde (now DoS), Typhlochactas/With Teeth, Milograd (roleplay mentor before his DoS), and a crap ton of others. I also remember USS Monitor as both -Ebola- and Nazi Flower Power; I always liked those names and flags.

On the less savory side of things: I also remember the DoS of Karinzistan very well, and how often he'd come back afterward; 1000 Cats, Objectiveland, Verbluffen, Winslavia, Moving Forward Inc/Acireman, the random gibberish spammer dude from December 2012, and a whole bunch of summer trolls over the years, many of whom having given me some good laughs and reading material. And don't forget all the threads I've read about such colourful past characters as Drunk Commies, BNPs Britain, Beeker in his 2003 incarnation, Hairless Kitten, and a whole bunch of other names from the old Hall of Ex-Nations on the original NSwiki. (And the archives of the current Moderation forum. There is some gold in there!)

Do these names strike up any nostalgia for any of you guys (especially you old-timers)? I'm sure GPers, RPers, Generalites, etc. will have different ideas of who's all memorable and whom they've never heard of, and with only about 600 posts on this nation, I'm doubting anyone will consider me too memorable, at least under this account. ;)

YumYumSuppertime, Stephistan, The Nazz (can't remember his original name), Alien Space Bats (who occasionally swoops in and swoops out just as quickly), Bottle, name escapes me...Irish chick, into motorcycle racing...she was cool, there were some other high information posters whose names escape me but in general I miss their ilk.

Gallade? That's another name I'd forgotten about!

I remember Yumyum too, first mod with a nation newer than my original one. Remember when he was a n00b. Wonder where he went.

New Bradfurgh. He ran the now defunct Radiant and Sparrow.

Memorable NSers would have to come from users who dwell on different topics. Some are very memorable and recognised much in General, RP forums and Forum 7. I can easily say I’m quite a memorable player on Forum 7, but not anywhere else.

As a person who has played Forum 7 (before shifting to General last month) mostly, I can easily say some names which common NSGers may not recognise.

I wonder about that too.

I was actually worried enough to look him up offsite and make sure neither he nor his daughter had died. As far as I could tell he was still around and doing OK, just not on NS. Never did find out why he left, though.

No, that's not it...Nadkor, that's it! Literally remembered while I was typing!

Yummers peaced out pretty suddenly. But he was a high information poster and the tone shifted here. I assume he just got tired and left.

I don't really miss anyone other than Khalisako / Zeth Rekia. Most people tail off in activity first or get increasingly embittered with the forum and its evolution before they quit; neither of those paths lend themselves towards the person being particularly miss-able. A lot of the oldies ended up with sticks unhealthily far up their butts.

That is quite often happening. People join a fresh new community, bring in their energy and spirit. But after some time they loose it and slowly the energies turn negative or toxic. Then they either quit or get miserable. I'd say the median time for that is 12-18 months.

This, I believe your analysis is largely accurate and I observed this also in other communities.

Altough I think this summer has been one of the best ones so far since I joined.

Ohh boy, quite a lot of them, but here goes:

From NSG and other non-F7 threads:
- Ghost Land. You're a cool guy to talk to when it comes to music.
- USS Monitor for inviting me to NSSCRA and just giving me general confidence and support all the way. Also a very cool gunboat Mod. :P
- Bluelight, because you're just a sweet dude in TET.
- Hurdergaryp, Ethel Mermania, Blaat, Heloin as well... really swell people in TET. ^^
- Many of the Mods who have all been very helpful and nice with me.

For NS Cards:
- Ballpit, Fris, Ballotonia, 9003, DGES (Destructive Government Economic System), amongst many others.

For NS Issues:
- Candlewhisper Archives, Chan Island, Jutsa (for maintaining a huge list of issues), Ransium, Helaw... very supportive and helpful with me when I first dabble into writing Issues.

For F7:
- Toooo damn many to count, so there're Stanier, Zitravgrad, Yegla Islands, Frievolk, Silver Commonwealth, 13 Necropolis 13 (now under a variety of other puppets!), Scottish Socialists, Free Arabian Nation, Hammer Britannia... and that's not even scratching the surface.

She was an old ally of mine in the early days of God Kefka

...

Whatever became of Mavorpen?

Have not seen Empire of Narnia post in ages...

I remember Nadkor too; I thought of her after I made this thread. According to the boneyard she CTE'd in October. I always remembered the "those who rock today will pop tomorrow" line from her sig.

I wasn't expecting to see my own name in here; wow, thank you very much! You're definitely one of my best friends on here too. :)

Out of currently-active users, I'll go with Blaat (great job as a mod 2013-2017, all-around fun guy to talk with), Demoness (one of the original mods, still active, now at 17 years and still pretty fun to talk to), and I don't think anyone will forget our #1 poster, Nanatsu no Tsuki.

And of course, I'll remember a lot of people in negative ways, you know, the people who have flamed me, or ruined my win rate in Nation Challenge...

Infected Mushroom above mentioned Luveria and Mavorpen; I remember both of them well, in addition to Individuality-ness and Ovisterra, two more people active in my original heyday who have since disappeared.

I’ve only started talking more on NSG last month, so my name on the list of the NSG section really means a lot. Thank you.

You’re being too nice, to remember all the names but never even remember your own. :)

So is this thread commndable NS'ers in general, or specifically commendable NS'ers who are no longer active?

Assuming it's the latter, Vovo was cool and I don't see much of him anymore, though he might still be around. I miss Aillria (that's not the right spelling), I miss Albrenia, I miss new Emmeline, and the Iranian Anarchist whose nation name I forget. Basically, I miss a lot of the classic LWDT (III to IV era) lineup. I can't think of many more people who I miss, because a lot of the people who I know are gone I didn't really know well or didn't really like, and a lot of the people I liked who were gone have recently came back.

Infected Mushroom is like the spirit of the forum.

I also remember Hippostania. He used to be very controversial back then. Was ahead of his time, that's for sure.

I was told I could post something before it was posted for me, so here goes.

I'm no longer a moderator on NationStates.

How and why? The reasons are many and varied, depending on who you talk to. I have my answers, some of the other mods have theirs, and the site owner has his. At the end of the day, what started out as minor disagreements on policy, the handling of situations, attitudes, and assorted other issues became bigger, and made it impossible to continue in good faith on my part, and impossible to deal with me on theirs. Not my preference, not my choice, but then again, its not my site. And hey - it is all no longer my problem.

From the sounds of it, stuff got heated backstage and they ended up removing her from the mod team. Not as crazy as the 2004 Stephistan mental breakdown and emergency demodding, but I remember reading the Nathi firing thread and it came as a big shock to me. I always liked Nathi, so it's sad to see her gone now.
