It’s Parkus, so…who knows.

Those of us who have been around a while know. Parkus used to bang anything that moved and most things that didn't. Then he caught religion and turned into an ass.

Was this before or after he started impersonating Muslims?

Before. He was a leftist, as far as I know, before 2016(?) and converted to Orthodox Christianity around then. He started doing the El-Amin schtick in 2017, iirc.

Parkus wasn't El-Amin, I know some members of the NSG Muslim community who have spoken to El-Amin outside of General and they're very much not the same person. Parkus was a different Muslim themed nation, had a white flag but the name escapes me at the moment.

I could've sworn El-Amin was Parkus, but I did a bit of digging and it seems to be that there isn't solid evidence for that. Parkus was definitely Al Mumtahanah.

I knew it!

I was beginning to doubt my recollection because I didn't know Parkus very well before he left prior to coming back.* And obviously the Parkus that came back was... yeah.

*Argh, now I've got to see if Parkus came back just prior to the mods read TGs thread and left again before returning as... yeah, well. EDIT: my memory is correct although it wasn't the TG thread (and the "just" is seriously misleading), but a different controversy from the time... "first" gap was between 2011 and 2013, the "second" between 2013 and 2017.

Parkus seemed a cool guy. Introduced me to a lot of people and he was a smart cookie, we had a lot of good conversations.

Don't know what going on near the end with the whole expanded cinematic universe shenanigans where he was playing multiple people in the same conversation. I didn't really like that when it all came out, I'm really not a big fan of the psy-ops shit.

Hope he's doing okay, and if it was all a character and a 4D chess game I still gained something from the discussions on the level that I could see.

Cool is not a term I would use for him but he had his charm. It may have been an act, but I got the feeling something happened to him between Parkus 1 and parkus 2

And the latest incarnation was just really odd tbh, and wasn't active for long before dropping off the grid again.

There aren't many people who come back after spending four years away. I mean, maybe he was lurking but not posting or something but I wonder if returning was, itself, a sign... like an attempt to recapture some lost self identity.

I didn't know about the Psy Ops stuff, but it's an interesting concept. I've had the idea myself, actually. Never followed through on it... even when I was really active.

It was mentioned in the OP, but Verbluffen is particularly significant to me. He and I got along pretty well after his DoS, despite his despicable political views. I can't actually remember why we talked, but obviously I'm glad we don't anymore. As a fun fact, after he went away and people forgot about him, I started adopting his name on other platforms and games because I thought it sounded cool. So if you see a Verbluffen around on the net, odds are it's me :P it's always fun when people ask where I got my username. "An American Nazi I met online once" is always a fun thing to say.

I'll also give a shoutout to Bodobol. He was pretty active in TET around 2014, and helped found Nesapo with me, as well as making a name for himself in GP- particularly Lazarus. We're actually very close friends still, even though he hasn't actively played the game in a long time. He was the guy who brought me here in 2013, and I'll always be grateful for that.

I feel like I should mention a few folks I haven't seen in many years: Luveria, the founder of Winterfell Islands. She more or less dropped off the map after we merged into Khora. Haven't heard anything of her since January 2014. Thafoo, who was too colourful a personality for this game. Lykens, also known as the Almighty Jesus Whale. Instrumental player in the NSG Senate, and I think he's still active today. Almost became Delegate of Osiris after winning a hotly-disputed election, which triggered a coup d'etat by Cormac that led to the modern OFO as we know it. Speaking of NSGS, there was Maklohi Vai, who apparently only CTE'd today. He was a moderator and undoubtedly the beating heart of that roleplay in its golden age. And Prussia-Steinbach... where to start with him? Last I heard of him he was still in jail.

There was one guy, whose name escapes me... he was incredibly prolific in the World Assembly sometime in 2013-14, and at some point he just suddenly disappeared (just remembered, it was SkyDip). I think he may have been commended once. Karpathos, rest his soul. I'll never forget when he filmed a video mocking his opponents in the Osiran coup while smoking a joint. American California, I think he went under another name after awhile. Hell, he may still be around. I just remember he was one of those rugged individualist types. I also miss Franklin Delano Bluth and that one guy whose profile picture was Johnny Cash with a pie. Also one guy, I can't remember his name exactly... he was Dutch, and it sounded something like Albus. He was a fun guy. OH, AND WHO WAS THE GUY WHO WENT AROUND SAYING HE WAS JOE BIDEN?! That joke is infinitely funnier today.

Also Afforress. NationStates Plus was a really good extension back in the day, and useful for managing puppets. I defended him in a forum once and he gave me PMG, which I still have on this account. I'll always be grateful for that. Also Kogvuron, from Lazarus. And this one guy from the PRL, who went by Lenny (his nation was called V I Lenin). All he ever did was proclaim undying loyalty to the regime and write propaganda for us. As soon as the PRL went away, so did he. Communist Stephen Colbert reminded me a lot of him, I always wondered if there was a connection there.

I met a lot of memorable folks in Grand Central. Festavo and Yuno, of course. But also Trever, if anyone remembers him. That guy was messed up. Had a lot of problems, not the least of which was his constant lying about himself and his life. I feel bad for him, I hope he got the help he needed. 94 Block, who I'm glad is finally gone. Mitsuko Leismeister, from Firehelm, who was one of the most interesting and also disturbed people I've ever met online. Solorni, whose interactions with me eventually got her driven from the game.

Jeez, I could go on forever. But I won't. That's just some of the people who have had a mark on me in my seven years here (seven this April!).
