Seeking a utopia is impossible. The word literally means ‘no place’.

A delightful bit of etymology, but obviously whether a utopia is possible or not depends on what one's idea of a utopia is.

So I've been reading up on this (mostly on BBC) and because I'm an ignorant American, not really aware of all your Parliamentary procedures/protocols. It seems that there are only 7 or 8 total working days being lost by this "suspension". Is that really so bad? When I first heard this news, I thought of it as a dissolving of Parliament, which clearly this is not.

Can't Parliament do something in the next week or so to stop this if they want to?

Now a dystopia is something we can actually do, with minimal efforts even.

No one’s political ideal will ever be reached. Ever.

Courts independent of European jurisdiction. At the moment it seems many of our judges are happy to take laws from overseas.

And when the courts exercised that independence the Mail branded them the enemy for not ruling their preferred way.

Because the courts are using it to relinquish their independence.

Poor Boris, doing outrageous things in the UK, yet this year still being upstaged by Trump and Bolsanaro.

Even as a populist, he's third rate at best.

You seem to be missing the point of a common-law system.

Obviously any time being lost at this critical juncture in British politics is bad.

Can't Parliament do something in the next week or so to stop this if they want to?

Yes, possibly.

That's a nice belief you have there.

If that's what courts are saying then you should be able to quote them saying so.

You'd like me to find you a single court case in which a British court applied a European law? You do realise that European union law is supreme in the UK, as in every European union member, right?

Shame really, when I leafleted about she seemed to be popular with a lot of Scots even those not explicitly Tory.

‘She’s nae bad’ was the usual remark.

It takes a while to pass almost anything through the commons: it's not a "one vote and done" thing. You have to jump through some hoops to get it even brought to motion, then go through the emergency procedures to get through it quickly enough, then hope that the Lords also get through it quickly enough and don't make any amendments.

It's easy to do what you say when you've taken pretty much every standpoint available in a desperate attempt to find something that sticks.

Johnson has officially suspended Parliament.

The reaction from the MPs can only be described as "hoes mad".
