Consider the Netherlands as well, the Dutch tend to speak English somewhat fluently. Same goes for the Scandinavian countries, by the way.

This is hardly time to leave the country.

So, Boris asks to suspend Parliament for several weeks and the Queen granted I hear. Seems he's destine for a hard exit, which he wants anyway.

They'll probably have to cross on lorries. We can't just let everybody in or we'll end up with a humanitarian crisis and the riches won't equate to much.

I'm sure there'll be so much drinking water and chocolate that you won't know what to do with it all.

Well assume the excess drinking water can go into golden fountains, pictures of which we can send to all the countries which don't have enough.

So let me get this straight
Basically in October, the entire legislature is gonna be ended, leaving only the Prime Minister and friends?

No, the legislature is going to be closed next week, leaving no one until it re-opens on the 14th of October.

And pixies will accompany all these ruby-slippered travellers as they skip along the yellow-bricked road, beneath a glimmering rainbow, to London -- the emerald green buildings shining green in the sunlight, because that's the way we laugh and play in the merry old land of...

I'm sorry. I thought we wandered into Oz.

If I recall correctly, the time to leave the country is after you got everything you wanted and it proves to be a total fucking disaster.

That is right, isn't it? :eyebrow:

Ok, I’m sorry I tried to read the BBC article myself but I just don’t get it. So what’s going to happen, just no government for a while?

As always, she and her inbred minions will be fine whilst the rest of us get our arseholes annexed by the might of the Tory thundercock.

Okay, now this is a quote that belongs in a sig.

Pretty much. Parliament won't sit, so no votes on Brexit or on kicking Boris out or anything. Then they all come back on the 14th and the Queen gives a speech about what Boris told her he's going do during the new legislative session.

Although technically the Queen cannot have a standing Army unless it is approved by Parliament every at least once 5 years, otherwise it would legally cease to exist.
There is no Royal British Army as a result, unlike the other services it does not use Royal in its title. Legally it is under Parliamentary authority rather than Royal authority.

Although of course the suspension would not last 5 years.

That's not the reason for the naming difference. It's called the British Army because it was the result of merging the English Army and the Royal Army (of Scotland). They didn't call it the "Royal Army" because that would imply that it was the continuation of the Scottish part, not of the English part. The same didn't apply to the navy, since Scotland barely had one, and obviously the RAF is far more recent. In particular, there's clearly no objection to having "Royal" regiments (see the Royal Horse Guards, the 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards, the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, the Royal Dragoon Guards, the Queen's Royal Hussars, the Royal Lancers, the King's Royal Hussars, the Royal Tank Regiment, the Royal Yeomanry, the Royal Wessex Yeomanry, the Royal Regiment of Scotland, the Precess of Wales's Royal Regiment, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, the Royal Anglian Regiment, the Royal Welsh, the Royal Irish Regiment, the Royal Gurkha Rifles, the Royal Regiment of Artillery, the Corps of Royal Engineers, the Royal Corps of Signals, the Royal Army Chaplains Department, the Royal Logistic Corps, the Royal Army Medical Corps, the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, the Royal Army Dental Corps, the Royal Army Physical Training Corps, Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps, the Royal Gibraltar Regiment and the Royal Bermuda Regiment.

Also they seem to be acting like there can only be a change in government after a VONC if the outgoing government endorses or recommends it.

The verbosity is appreciated.

Did you seriously think that Boris Johnson had abolished the legislative branch of a country with parliamentary supremacy, or am I just totally misinterpreting your post?

Just before an unelected strongman hamstrings parliament in order to force through something horribly unpopular and usher in total chaos while revoking human rights protections sounds like the perfect time to get the fuck out of a country to me.
