Corbyn has refused to answer questions about whether he would resign if he failed to win the next election.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-50033227

John McDonnell should have kept his mouth shut. Still I'm sure everyone here would welcome Jess Phillips as the new leader...

Personally I think Rebecca Long-Bailey would be a good choice.

It seems more like a kind of class school segregation policy than legitimately "Paying for my kid to have better education", it's more "Paying for class segregation".

This says admission difference is down to grades and UCAS scores. Yes my child in private school is scoring better on the college entrance exam nepotism right?

Notice that the difference disappears when you compare private schools to selective state schools. It isn't better teaching: it's sampling bias.

No photo ID = 3.5 million citizens
No passport/driving license: 11 million
In 2013/14, 1.7 million lacked a bank account.

I have my passport, but is the issue of voter fraud really that serious here that we need to resort to this? I want to see some evidence from the government that this is actually a serious issue.

There was exactly one conviction for the sort of fraud that voter ID would prevent in 2017.

I'd maybe understand the measures if this was a country where the ballot boxes routinely get stuffed etc. If anything there would be more justification in cracking down on the so called "granny farming" using proxy votes, as proxy votes are arguably more open to abuse.

So they are. Just had a read of the tiny section of the Telegraph article that isn't paywalled.

Kind of suggests this is aimed at suppressing the votes of young people.

If you'd like to sign a petition to get shut of the fixed term parliaments

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/272911

It'd at least prevent another impasse like this fiasco.

there is also one which would clarify who funds lobby groups

Under the current treaty the US has not denied a single UK extradition request.

Sinn Fein is continuing to back John Downey, an IRA bomber whose court trial for Hyde Park fell apart a few years ago and is currently being investigated for killing two UDR soldiers by the courts here in NI. Saying his extradition was an attempt to overturn due process.

And this is why people dont take SF seriously when it says it wants to reach out to unionists. Actions speak louder than words, if you really wana reach out to unionists stop doing this shit then. The man should go to court.

I'll be surprised if a formal extradition request is actually made. I suspect there are many cases where the UK simply doesn't bother asking because we know what the answer will be, and this will be one of them.

The fact she was recalled sort of shows the American position. The best hope now would be to get her to return due to her guilty conscience.

Supposedly she is really torn up about it. But whether that actually translates into actually doing anything about it...we'll just need to wait and see.
