Is it that private schooling is better for educating the kids, or is it that private schooling allows clubs for the rich and nepotism to thrive? Evidence is against the former, so it suggests the latter is why they are thought to "work".

It seems more like a kind of class school segregation policy than legitimately "Paying for my kid to have better education", it's more "Paying for class segregation".

This says admission difference is down to grades and UCAS scores. Yes my child in private school is scoring better on the college entrance exam nepotism right?

Notice that the difference disappears when you compare private schools to selective state schools. It isn't better teaching: it's sampling bias.

I'd maybe understand the measures if this was a country where the ballot boxes routinely get stuffed etc. If anything there would be more justification in cracking down on the so called "granny farming" using proxy votes, as proxy votes are arguably more open to abuse.

Sinn Fein is continuing to back John Downey, an IRA bomber whose court trial for Hyde Park fell apart a few years ago and is currently being investigated for killing two UDR soldiers by the courts here in NI. Saying his extradition was an attempt to overturn due process.

Supposedly she is really torn up about it. But whether that actually translates into actually doing anything about it...we'll just need to wait and see.
