NHS junior doctors have to go around breaking kneecaps to drum up business.

University students moonlighting as sex workers is reasonably common, so junior doctors moonlighting as bailiffs isn't too much of a stretch.

The NHS isn't the thing that extorts people. It's the government that does that, in order to give the money to the NHS. Shockingly enough, private hospitals don't make you pay money if you don't use them.

Tbh after some of the things you have said in this thread and the previous UK politics threads, I wouldn't trust you if you said water was wet, let alone a hyperbolic claim about government extortion.

How is "pay us or face the consequences" evil if and only if the government is the one saying it?

It's only extortion if it's against your will, so the great thing about the whole arrangement is that the only people who are extorted are also the exact same people I am quite happy for the government to extort.

But it might *gasp* make rich people slightly less rich! And for what, to keep poor people alive and provide security for the nation? Bah! Preposterous, I tell you!

My local hospital is actually an old workhouse. Should be easy to convert it back.

You don't have to pay taxes if you earn below the threshold, so it is very much a choice. Civilisation is the product. If you don't want to buy it, you can always choose to live in a tent in the woods. There's a guy doing that near where I live.

Civilisation can work quite well without taxation, everything is simply privatised. Want police protection? Healthcare? Education? All for sale. Wouldn't that be great?

"Pay us money or die" is the same statement no matter who's saying it.
If it helps you to visualize things, imagine that freedom has actual monetary value based on the cost of providing it. That cost must be paid for, or otherwise the government has no obligation to guarantee your freedom, since you'd be benefiting from a service you haven't paid for, which is something you're against.

Not guaranteeing something is different from taking it away. Act vs omission.

Nope. You don't have to buy the product. Just like the slums you let out, if the customer doesn't like the price, they can look elsewhere. Do you entertain tenants who have their own idea of what product you should be offering for what price?

It has been tried. After the collapse of the Roman Empire in the West, everything was privatised. Which, shocker, led to people with money laying down the law.
