wanting to have another vote is not comparable to having a vote then having the no votes mysteriously disappear. the equivalent would be if when article 50 was going through parliament we just said "wow the teller for pro article 50 didn't show up guess that's a 114-0 in favour of not invoking article 50 sorry lads". or, in terms of the referendum, if we separated the yes and no votes into separate vans then told the driver of the no vans to go drive to a pub in wales or some shit.

it is very disconcerting that you are putting blatant abuse of procedure to screw with democracy as being something down to party lines.

I think the moral high ground about democracy was long ago levelled. Noody can seriously use that as an excuse anymore.

It's still a case of playing dirty. Wasn't labour also supposed to be whipping against this amendment? Couldn't they have provided tellers?

you're not giving me a real answer. if remain really did do something as egregious as this then it should not be hard for you to pull it up.

so you're saying you don't give a shit about democracy anymore are willing to blatantly cheat to get what you want? great.

Well, I would argue that it kind of is since it flies in the face of the way that our political system is supposed to function, but given that the whole Brexit saga began in the first place because David Cameron wanted a referendum to shut up the Eurosceptics in the Tory Party I'm not sure that's an argument that GVH and Nihil can really deploy.

Oh, there will be an election, just not in October. It'll be in November more likely once the Benn Bill's become law. Then Corbyn will finally launch a no confidence vote.

The left really has nobody to blame on this tbh, they were the ones who criminalized incitement to violence and that was pretty much the only thing stopping the elites from just ignoring the public whenever they felt like it.

Historically these shenanigans would mean people in every town telling their friends they were going to go lynch the local lord.

Can't do that shit anymore.

And that, realistically, was the only reason they ever listened in the first place.

"What are you going to do about it?" is their response, and it's their response for a reason. There is nothing you can do now that you've taken mass violence off the table. Whine that they're being mean? They know they're being mean, they don't care. Morals mean nothing without violence to enforce them on dissenters, you're not some kind of bloody anarchist, you know this is the case.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.
