Close to 40%... that is... very very close to 50% of half of all who participate in the polls

are saying that close to zero percent of the world's teenage to adult population would try this gig

I feel like this is a very very optimistic view of human nature

Remember, I'm not saying they would IMMEDIATELY try it. They just have to try it ONCE at some point. It could be tomorrow, it could be 10 years from now when you're having a really bad day or get a little too curious. That's a long time temptations have to be kept at bay for some people...

The most shocking part of this setup is that a deity is concerned with a small side business. Is Heaven running a budget deficit or something?

I mean, he is all powerful

You aren't really thinking about what would be required to prevent all legal and social consequences. If the people who go start behaving differently, that's a social consequence, even if you say that you will erase people's memories if they realise why we are behaving differently. The only way there can be no consequences of something happening is if it didn't happen.

Proof that a God exists.

According to christians, there is only one all-powerful God. If this one is all powerful as the scenario says, he therefor is THE God.
Since his actions boil down to punishing the wicked with a personal hell his actions are even pretty much Godlike.

It occurred to me that:

A. It's not actually a god, but a demon running the enterprise to reap the souls of the people who would go there for their amusement.
B. It's not actually a supernatural entity at all. It's a voyeuristic and sadistic billionaire, who set it up to amuse himself.

Is there anyone else who is getting a Hostel vibe from this (but infinitely more low-brow of course, since the great unwashed are being allowed to partake in the entertainment as well)?

There's a marked difference between perhaps spectating as others are tortured or committing stupid, selfish acts of evil and actually torturing someone yourself, which is what is going on here, right?

Very, very few people would be willing to do that. Fewer still would do it for fun. It's a ridiculous setup.

To me most important question would be "why" the person would chose to go (even if this "entertainment" is for free).
Obvious answers to this why are:
1. sadists would definetely go
2. self-righteous humanitarians and good dooers who are actually sadists in disguise
3. bored persons who lack empathy for other's life
4. maybe victims true relatives out of revenge would go
5. members of public extracting revenge or general punishment would qualify under clause 2.

Thats it. I truly see no other reason for anyone to go there. However it is hard for me to correctly guess what percentage of population qualify under those mostly "medical conditions"

Special note, it may be rational decision by members of public to choose that such criminal should not continue his life with public. It is also rational to end his life as either to ensure that he cant return or as deterrence to others. However torture in such manner as you describe can not deter anyone (because he is unique case) and therefore has no rational bases.

The conditions present in your scenario pretty much guarantee that close to zero percent of the world's population would do this. It's not about human nature at all. The '$100 cost per 5 minutes' clause prevents almost certainly >95% of the world's population from reasonably doing this. Even if a given person is a pure evil psychopath who would love little more than to torture someone, they're not going to fork out $100 to do it for 5 minutes if they're struggling to afford enough food to survive.

It's a shitty business model as well. $100 for five minutes of doing something that's going to leave you emotionally damaged and irreparable for the rest of your life? Not gonna get a lot of business in the door.

I'd say a significant minority would try it.

It has no appeal to me personally, but there's always someone that either gets off on sadism (in a sexual sense) or needs to make a big show of punishing the bad guy.

$100 is way too much for 5 minutes. Way too much. Like, make it 10 or something and you'll have me sitting in there for hours. But at that price I could instead buy any number of things that will make me happier including but not limited to video games (hundreds of hours per game), good drink (hours of fun) etc. So yea, it's just too pricey.
