Holocauster memorial has become a hipster and tourist hangout. Its a big mass of huge, minecraft like big black blocks.

Actually no. Neo-Nazis are quite a thing in some parts of Berlin my local guide told me when I was there. (its been a couple of years though)

Was it Marzahn by any chance? I visited Marzahn not too long ago, it's quite a nice area, even though allegedly it has problems with Neo-Nazis...

If it had been preserved, it would have been very historically significant. However, I doubt the accuracy of any reproduction as it was extensively modified, then damaged, then obliterated during the war. That being the case, I see no significence to whatever were to be created.

I see you had a good guide too. ^^

Marzahn was the area specifically mentioned.

As this is Germany they'd get away with it until they assassinated another politician.

Nah I don't use guides, I guide myself from research I do on the internet before I go. ;)

Back when I visited (2000s) that wasn't yet so much a thing and you had to have connections to get the good info. Supposedly though much has changed and according to my local sources the city has been overrun by Hipsters.

Germany already has to deal with too many Nazis, I feel like they’d take this as some sort of sign of respect or acceptance when they very much are not accepted. I wouldn’t want to visit it and I wouldn’t want to see it recognized or preserved in any shape.

Unfortunately, most of it was destroyed and got flooded. It is in a state that isn't suitable for renovations or restoration. It was arguably, one of the greatest hidden lairs ever built. Over time, it will sink further into the ground and be filled in with groundwater and dirt naturally over time. Without maintenance, nothing will be left of it.

You'd have better luck attempting to reconstruct a brand new replica that isn't the original, but is built to current code so far as bunkers go.

That would, in case of doubt, probably be the more realistic and doable alternative.

People can already visit a ditch nearby. You know, where he ended up, shot in the head, covered in petrol and on fire.

Though he shot himself inside the bunker, and was cremated - don't think that the crematorium still exists...

They cremated him in the ditch outside the bunker.

My mistake: but still, I don't think that that ditch is still extant...

We can make a replica ditch with a nice sign so tourists can take selfies with that.

It would quickly become a Neo-Nazi shrine, just like the house where Hitler was born has become in Austria. And considering there is virtually nothing left, and what would be left is under some residential areas, there is no point in pursuing this venture. Hard pass.

I used to love the Downfall memes, but now I can speak semi-fluent German so I can no longer laugh at the fake subtitles.

Totally remember Fegelein though

Fair point.
Or we could use the river[the Elbe] where his ashes were scattered into as a selfie spot as well.

Besides, that Downfall meme after the actor died was so poetically beautiful that the meme should be allowed to lie in peace. ;-;>

As someone living in Berlin. Nah, most of it has been destroyed. Fully rebuilding it would seriously disrupt the city centre.

And it would attract neonazis. And while it is possible to buy all the alcohol in an east German village, buying it all in Berlin is a bit much. I am trying, but I don't think I am managing

More people obstructing traffic while I cycle to work.

Hard pass.
