In a joint statememt released by representatives of the American-backed government in Afghanistan and the Taliban, it was agree that civilian casualties are unaccepted, that women will be given a place in society according to Islamic understanding, and that schools, dams, hospitals, markets and mosques are absolutely not to be targetted. The goal of the talks is to ultimately establish U.S. withdrawal and includes a timetable. The Taliban in return will refuse harbor to al-Qaeda and other groups which seek to attack America.

It's highly likely that the Taliban is lying, given that they are absolute vermin.

The only good Taliban is a thoroughly reformed and incredibly apologetic Taliban.

This reminds me of what happened with the FARC in Colombia. (Essentially a far-left terrorist group that liked to raid villages and have people hostage). The dumbass Colombian government decided to talk with these parasites, and now, the head of this terrorist group now has a legitimate standing as an official political party. A fucking terrorist group that claimed the lives of 200.000 people now has a legitimate political standing thanks to the lack of actions of the government.

Either way, I just hope this isn't the case with the Taliban now that it's going to try and talk with US reps and the US-backed government in Afghanistan, but "talks" with terrorists don't give me much hope either.

People are letting the Taliban live because people are tired of the wars NeoCons started in the middle east. We don't want to send are troops to die anymore for a region we don't live in

Pretty meaningless. The statement literally says "war continues." You know what happens in war? Civilians get killed, especially when one side's primary means of striking back at the other is asymmetrical methods like terrorist bombings. Call me when they're dead or surrendered.

I'm hopeful, but I would not be surprised in the slightest if the Taliban don't keep their word If something comes of it.

Okay, that aside, I am not really sure if I can fully trust them just yet. I mean, in this day of heated political arguments and moments, it's like ISIS/ISIL dropping their flags and "we want to talk" and the next thing you know, they have plans for something dubious.

It's good to forgive and forget, but at the same time, don't trust your enemy too much.
