British are almost like Americans to us. They speak a posh dialect of the language.

I'm not an imperialist tho.

Also I'm unironically wearing a pith helmet right now.

Working class doesn't mean anyone who works although the term is definitely confusing. it means the working poor basically

It's a cute way to wear a hat depending on the rest of your outfit, as with all things in fashion. You can either look like a thug, a cute sporty girl, a stoned Asian rapper, or something else depending on what you pair it with.

I prefer wearing mine backwards because the brim irritates me.

That's not what it means. The working poor means the poor that works and is specifically defined as someone who is employed but still under the poverty line.

Working class is ill defined. Usually it is connected to not having a college degree. When the media says that working class whites supported Trump, they mean whites without a college degree. That is however not exact, while one can have a blue collar job and a college degree. It isn't common, but it happens.

So while the definition of working class is fuzzy, it doesn't have much to do with money. Plumbers are considered working class, but often make more money than teachers, who belong to the professional class.

The colloquial use of the term often refers to the working poor although yes, the actual term classifies a large group of people with very different jobs. Like when they say "working class British youth made punk rock," they're really saying impoverished British youth, but working class sounds better.

I'm not a fan of the term myself. I tend to classify society as rich, middle class and poor and that's it
