The brim on my bunnet helps to keep the low autumn and winter sun out of my eyes here in Scotland, and since the hat is woolly it helps keep my head warm, but it's a step under a proper woolly hat in terms of warmth.

I'm not a baseball cap kind of guy, but if I did wear them I think I would just be practical about it, wearing it forward when the sun is bright and shining right on my face and wearing it backwards when not.

But then your neck wil burn.

Well, almost all fashion is said to be cyclical- in that what isn't "in" can suddenly be popular again and vice versa. I'd say it's good for if you need fully unobstructed vision but want to use the brim later on, without taking the hat off.

This is a bad idea in my neck of the woods. It's fine to wear a plain generic ushanka during a cold winter, but it'd give you a Russian/Eastern European vibe and hence you might be perceived as a bit "out of place" amongst the locals. While if its a ushanka with a Communist star, that would cause you more problems than otherwise because it is a political statement in a way. Would offend slightly more people than someone wearing Nazi emblems, because it's a far more conservative part of Florida where I'm at. Communism is heavily persecuted where social and economic Conservatism is strong.

Out here we have a giant statue of Vladimir Lenin. That probably gave you too much information about where I live, but uhh... yeah. An ushanka is m i l d where I am.

Always dadcap though, never flat brim. I'll usually pair it with short shorts and boat shoes.

If I'm wearing a Baseball cap I'm either fishing or doing outdoor labor. In neither of those situations do I have any use for a hat that doesn't keep the sun out of my eyes. So no, I don't wear them backwards.
