Indentured servitude could be practical in some cases if the servant could unilaterally terminate the indenture at any time, with the proviso that the debt or whatever is not paid off in such a situation if it was a decision made ex mero motu. It might be hardly distinguishable from a contractor though... Slavery on the other hand is reprehensible.
