I really don't see the issue unless people somehow imagine tap water comes from pristine streams and springs in the forest (which are also contaminated with animal shit...take a swig from a stream if you want to lose 5 pounds and have a nice parasite living in your intestinal tract). I wouldn't fill up my bottle at a tap on the toilet for obvious reasons but if the water is being sourced from wastewater, who cares? At one point or another I'm just going to return it anyways.

Why would anyone want to drink water in a smelly public washroom that's full of microscopic fragments of fecal matter? There's a reason drinking fountains are outside washrooms.

Yes, we DO have combo-sinks/toilets here. They make handwashing after the fact a bit easier and save on water.

NO ONE DRINKS FROM THEM! They are not safe drinking water!

I may be a little too barbaric for that society....I am very lax on hand washing unless it's a particularly gnarly, million-wiper kind of deuce. I utilize the elbow flush for less serious matters at the urinal or the foot-flush for those requiring the throne, though.

This ^^

Bacteria flies through the air unto the water that spills out of the water cooler that you drink.

Can we take time to admire the irony that Japan and India are on the same continent

Japan is an island chain. And technically India is on the same continent as all of Asia, Europe and Africa. (Look it up, it's one big landmass.)

And for anyone crying about germs flying through the air, fecal bacteria are spread in droplets of water, not on their own. So anything that squirts water or causes strong stream of air to hit something wet, is bad news. That's why the hand-dryers that work with airflow, are much worse in terms of germs than any kind of towel-dispensing machine (the cleanest are paper towels). I can't imagine that a water-first-then-air-squirting bottom-cleanser can be better in those terms than paper followed by handwashing, because it sounds like it's going to cause a lot more airborne fecal droplets. However, public toilets at least get washed with antibacterial soaps and such often enough that as long as you wash your hands, it doesn't matter much. (A germaphobe would want to avoid touching a door handle when exiting, through, because many people don't wash their hands.)

On top of which, the fecal bacteria of people who live in the same area as you, are relatively harmless, and your own are totally harmless (unless you're acutely sick with something like Salmonella, but then you got that from somewhere else), in small quantities.

Ugh, India is on its own subcontinent, don't put Asia on one big pile like that. There's as many difference from Delhi to Tokyo as Delhi to Paris.

Japan is a chain of islands, India takes up a whole subcontinent. Asia is diverted, too. Don’t forget about that.

Like someone already said, too, India is also part of the Afro-Eurasia ‘supercontinent.’

And why not just admire that the United States and China are on the same planet?
