I wonder if they wrote the invocation down, that would be interesting just to read how it would go.

As for them not being allowed to, it makes sense I guess that it's usually only a tradition for a council member to do the invocation, but at the same time, it's pretty discriminatory and narrow-minded to not at least listen to their request and have a member of the Church come up, say some nice thank yous and acknowledgements, and do their thing.

I consider (modern) Satanism nowadays to be a sort of “opposition” religion. People don’t actually believe it, but they build on Satanism’s reputation as a boogeyman to the mainstream religion (Christianity) to embody a sort of opposition. And they use their technical status as a religion to usually bring attention to or make fun of practices such as invocations, in this case.

Wouldn’t even know where to start looking, but there was a case similar to this in the past where they actually let a Satanist give an invocation and it ended up just being a very Humanist speech. And then there’s stuff like this: https://www.npr.org/2018/08/17/63972647 ... ded-statue
